Prasidh Krishna has been declared fit to play for India in their upcoming two-match Test series in New Zealand, as per reports. The fast bowler was also named in India squad for the five-match ODI series in the country, but was ruled out owing to an injury concern.

The cricketer sustained his injury just last month during India’s home ODI series against the West Indies team.

Prasidh Krishna recovers from injury, fit to play in New Zealand

As reported by Cricbuzz, Prasidh Krishna has been declared fit by the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE). The cricketer’s simulation tests lasted over two days, before the 30-year-old received his clearance from the CoE medical team.

He is now available to play India’s upcoming Test series in New Zealand, and will soon be taking flight for the country. Krishna will also be available to play for India A in their impending third unofficial Test against New Zealand A, set to be staged in Lincoln between November 7 and November 10.

While he was removed from India squad for the ODI series, the BCCI had already stated that the fast bowler’s availability for the Tests and four-day fixtures will be subject to a fitness clearance.

What can Prasidh Krishna bring to the table for India?

The presence of Prasidh Krishna in the Test series will serve as a huge boost for the visiting Indian team in New Zealand. The fast bowler last played Test cricket for India during their two-match tour of Sri Lanka in August.

In four innings of the series, the speedster picked up seven wickets across spin-friendly surfaces of Galle and Colombo.

Krishna also played a crucial role in India securing a fighting draw in England last year, collecting 14 wickets in six innings spanning three Tests at an average of 37.07.

His ability to extract bounce and movement with the new ball could make him a valuable weapon for India in the seam-friendly New Zealand conditions. His experience of bowling in challenging overseas conditions could also prove crucial as India look to make a strong start to their Test campaign in the country.
