Potential BCCI Selection Chief For Juniors Joins Australian Team

Powar, who worked as India's women's head coach in the past, confirmed the development himself to Sportstar.Powar, who played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India between 2004 and 2007, would be there with the Australian U19 team for four days. One youth ODI is already done, and two more will be played in the same format before two red-ball multi-day matches begin.Ramesh Powar Helps Australia U19 SpinnersAs three youth ODIs conclude on October 23, Powar clearly said he would be there for only four days with the Australia U19 squad, as Cricket Australia (CA) had previously approached him to guide their spinners, his forte.“The Australian team management approached me quite a few months back to come and spend some time with the young spinners and guide them, so I decided to spend four days with them,” Powar told Sportstar.Also Read: How Did Virender Sehwag's Son Aaryavir And Rahul Dravid's Son Anvay Perform vs Australia U19?“It’s a one-off gig, and just a short one to guide the young bowlers,” he added.Who Are Spinners In Australia U19 Squad?Australia’s biggest name in the U19 setup is Spencer Green. A leg-spinner in the making for the coming days, Green was in action during the 1st youth ODI between India U19 and Australia U19. In a rain-marred 20-over match, Green gave up 43 runs in four overs and dismissed wicketkeeper-batter Arjun Rajput."Some of the boys that went over there (India) the last tour said they were signing autographs everywhere," Green told cricket.com.au before coming to India."It might be a bit of a shock, but also just such a cool experience to see how much they love cricket."I mean, look at the Indian Under 19 team that we're playing. It's pretty incredible that out of how many blokes playing cricket in India, that they are the best of the best cricketers in the country under 19 years old. I think it will really put it into perspective about how powerful cricket is over there," he added.Another off-spinner, Eli Brain, is in the Australian U19 squad. So, both of them will have an opportunity to learn from Powar, who has six wickets in two Tests and 34 wickets in 31 ODIs.When Could Powar Join BCCI?Interestingly, as mentioned above, Powar, if the reports are true, will join India’s junior setup, predominantly India U19.The BCCI, even though they already had an AGM on Friday, is yet to conduct an interview for the role with the shortlisted candidates.
