Several important factors were discussed, covering the IPL, finances, umpiring, age verification, player development and the national selection committees. The future of senior men’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar was also among the major talking points, although no final decision on his continuation was announced.Key Decisions Made At 2026 BCCI AGMThe Key Decisions Made Are As Under:The following 2 (two) representatives of the General Body were elected and inducted in the Governing Council of the IPL: (a) Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal; and (b) Mr. M Khairul Jamal Majumdar.The audited statement of accounts of BCCI for FY 2025-26 was adopted by the General Body.The Annual Budget of FY 2026-27 was approved by the General Body.The Auditors for FY 2026-27 was appointed.The General Body unanimously took a call to celebrate the upcoming 20th edition of IPL in 2027 in a grand way.The General Body has initiated the process for the BCCI centenary celebrations in 2028. The centenary will be celebrated through a year-long programme, commencing in December 2027 continuing through 2028, marking a landmark milestone in the history of Indian CricketThe General Body unanimously approved the enhanced payment structure for umpires and match referees and reclassification of the grades.The new Internal Committee of BCCI was formed under the BCCI’s Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy.The BCCI Age Verification Policy was updated and adopted.The General Body discussed with the State Units, measures to support differently-abled cricketers, including appropriate facilities and resources to promote their development and progress.Also Read: Jharkhand Association Issues Official Statement On BGT Venue ChangeAjit Agarkar's Future Also A Major Point of DiscussionThe future of Ajit Agarkar was closely watched during the AGM, and BCCI office-bearers were authorised to make decisions on the selection committees.However, the meeting did not provide a final answer on whether Agarkar will continue as chairman of the senior men’s selection committee.Questions about Agarkar’s continuation were already being raised before the meeting. It was also reported earlier that his contract could be extended until the next ODI World Cup, scheduled for 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.If the BCCI decides to make a change, the usual process would involve inviting applications through a public advertisement and interviewing candidates. Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel and Pragyan Ojha have been mentioned in reports as possible names in discussions around the selection panel.Why Has the IPL Been An Important Part of BCCI's Development?The IPL has become a major commercial property for the BCCI since its launch in 2008. Its media rights, sponsorships and franchise-based structure have helped create a large financial ecosystem around Indian cricket.The scale of the league became clear in the 2023-27 media rights auction.
