The cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) is set to begin in less than two weeks. However, with the tournament getting closer, a major question is being raised, will the ongoing Iran–United States conflict affect the tournament?

Recently, travel and flight operations from many Middle Eastern countries have become difficult, and this situation could create problems for teams and players preparing for IPL 2026.

Travel disruptions raise concerns

At present, the growing tensions in the Middle East have already started affecting international cricket travel. The shadow of the conflict may also fall on the IPL 2026 season. It is important to note that several teams participating in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 recently faced serious travel issues.

Important transit hubs like Dubai and Doha temporarily restricted airspace, which caused travel plans of teams such as England, West Indies, and South Africa to become disorganized.

Even though the World Cup has finished, the travel problems have continued. As a result, the upcoming IPL tournament might also experience similar difficulties.

BCCI monitoring the situation

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced the schedule for the first 20 matches of IPL 2026. However, the full schedule will only be released after election dates are confirmed in the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Assam, and West Bengal.

According to reports, apart from the state elections, the ongoing West Asia conflict is also a major concern for BCCI officials. Since international travel has become complicated due to restrictions at major airports like Dubai and Doha, many players are still facing delays while returning home after international tournaments.

IPL 2026 players facing delays

In fact, some players from South Africa and West Indies have still not reached their home countries even a week after the T20 World Cup ended. Therefore, it is still uncertain whether these IPL-bound players will arrive in India on time to join their teams.

A team official expressed concern about the situation and told PTI, “There was a substantial delay in departure of West Indies and South Africa players. It would be a tough task to get them back to India on time. Plus, the airfares have gone up substantially due to the war in West Asia.”

Thus, rising airfare prices and limited flights may make travel arrangements even more challenging for teams and organisers.

Apart from travel issues, the conflict has also affected supply chains. For instance, many hotels across India are currently experiencing shortages of cooking gas. Due to this problem, the central government recently invoked the Essential Commodities Act to ensure that domestic cooking gas continues to be supplied without interruption.

IPL 2026 first phase schedule out

Meanwhile, the first phase of the IPL 2026 will be played from March 28 to April 12. The 19th edition of the tournament will begin when defending champions RCB face SRH at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
