Ever since the Middle East tensions became the biggest talking point across the world, the travel plans via air have been hampered in different ways. Even though the ICC issued an official statement when it began to be the subject of discussion, keeping the T20 World Cup in mind, the teams, without a doubt, have suffered from the current geopolitical situation.

After the shocking T20 World Cup exit, with a defeat against India at Eden Gardens, the West Indies head coach, Daren Sammy, cried for help not once but multiple times. To name a few, the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Mushfiqur Rahim were affected by the Israel-Iran conflict. Finally, the ICC has woken up and is making the necessary arrangements to stop the panic.

ICC Assures Daren Sammy Can Finally Smile

To bring a smile to Sammy’s face, along with many who are stuck in India due to flight disruptions, the ICC assured them all a safe return home via charter flights. In fact, players from England and South Africa – who were eliminated from the semifinals after defeats to India and England – will fly back to their motherland in the same way.

"The England, South Africa and West Indies teams are set to leave India over the weekend on a charter plane arranged by the ICC due to the disruption in air travel caused by the ongoing military conflict in West Asia," an ESPNCricinfo report read.

"ESPNcricinfo has learned that England, after losing their second-final to India on Thursday, will depart from Mumbai on Saturday evening, while West Indies and South Africa will take a different charter flight from Kolkata."

South Africa, West Indies In Kolkata; England In Mumbai

Players from South Africa and the West Indies are all in Kolkata. While the two-time T20 World Cup champions from the Caribbean side have been there since Sunday after India got an all-important victory at the Eden Gardens, the Proteas are there after a thumping semi-final defeat to New Zealand.

"England will fly direct to London. West Indies - along with South Africa - will go to Johannesburg first and then to Antigua. Some of the South African contingent - the team management along with Keshav Maharaj, Jason Smith and George Linde - will be travelling to New Zealand on Sunday for a limited-overs tour that begins on March 15," the report explained.

The T20 World Cup 2026 will end on Sunday (March 8), with co-hosts India taking on New Zealand for the prestigious title. While the defending champions will try to improve their T20 World Cup-winning tally from two to three, a victory in the final, to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, will make sure New Zealand finally win the World Cup in the shortest format of the game.
