In a significant development, NZC confirmed four players as the frontrunners to make it into the New Zealand squad for the India series. The India tour of New Zealand 2026 comprises twelve international matches across formats.

The tour, which will run from October 22 to December 1, begins with a five-match T20I series, followed by five ODIs and two Test matches between the two countries.

Ahead of the highly anticipated tour, the NZC confirmed that four renowned white-ball specialists would be selected for the ODI and T20I matches by offering them casual contracts.

Which players NZC confirmed for India tour of New Zealand 2026?

According to an official press release by New Zealand Cricket, the board handed casual cricket contracts to four white-ball specialists, Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne, keeping the upcoming India tour of New Zealand 2026 in mind.

Notably, these cricketers are inactive in Test cricket and are well-known for their prowess in the shorter formats, T20Is and ODIs.

Finn Allen and Tim Seifert form a destructive opening batting pair, while fast bowlers Adam Milne and Lockie Ferguson are hailed for their ability to make the ball talk at a searing pace.

NZC selector Gavin Larsen announced the casual contract signings of Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne, thus confirming they would be part of New Zealand's plans for the ten white-ball matches against the Indian team during the India tour of New Zealand 2026.

“We’re delighted to add Finn, Lockie, Adam and Tim to our contracting programme for the next period. There’s no secret the in-bound India mega-tour is of critical importance to NZC on and off the field,” Gavin Larsen stated.

“The tour features 10 white-ball games over 25 days, followed immediately by a block of six Tests - so we’re well aware we’ll need a deep squad, particularly in the pace-bowling department, to be at our best across the different series," he added.

What is a casual contract?

A casual contract is different from the central contract, which the cricket boards offer to the players of their respective countries.

The players who are included in the central contract are available to play for the country throughout the year. They also receive training and medical facilities during this period and stay committed to the national team for the entire season.

However, players with a casual contract are allowed to explore opportunities in franchise cricket for most of the year and make themselves available for selection when the national team needs their service.

Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Lockie Ferguson and Adam Milne have secured a casual contract for the 2026-27 cricket season, starting August 1. So, they will be available for selection for the India tour of New Zealand 2026, which is scheduled to take place in October-November.

During this period, these four players will be integral members of New Zealand's high-performance system and have access to the NZC-governed coaching, medical and mental skills support.
