On Wednesday, India suffered an embarrassing defeat against England in the 3rd T20I. The Shreyas Iyer-led side suffered a 125-run loss, their biggest in the history of T20Is. The fans immediately took to social media platforms to seek justice for Sanju Samson.
For the unversed, Sanju Samson had a poor Ireland series and couldn’t even get runs under his belt in the 1st T20I vs England. Therefore, the management dropped the CSK opener for the 2nd and 3rd T20I to test Vaibhav Sooryavanshi at the top.
Sanju Samson’s Absence Triggered Massive Protest
Sanju Samson’s absence from the playing XI has triggered a massive protest on social media. The fans are slamming Gautam Gambhir for not backing the right-handed batter, who was player of the tournament during the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The protests multiplied on Tuesday when the BCCI named the T20I squad for Zimbabwe, and Sanju’s name was missing from it. It led to massive debates and arguments. The Sanju Samson fan club protested and dragged Gautam Gambhir into the conversation.

The fans slammed the India head coach for not keeping up his words, which was to give a longer rope to Sanju Samson. Nonetheless, in the latest events, Gambhir has finally addressed the issue.
Gautam Gambhir Issues Statement on Sanju Samson
After India’s 125-run defeat, Gautam Gambhir addressed the press, where he made a massive remark on Samson. The 44-year-old confirmed that Samson has been dropped but has a chance to make a comeback in the remaining series.
“We are absolutely clear that Sanju, whatever he has done during World Cup 2026, it has been phenomenal. Sometimes, you just have to look at the form of certain players. There is no such hard and fast rule that Sanju Samson cannot return to the team. Everyone has to earn their place, ” remarked Gautam Gambhir during the press conference.
Why did India management Drop Sanju Samson?
Sanju Samson enjoyed the best phase of his career when he won the Player of the Tournament of the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, the joy was short-lived because Samson’s inconsistency is what is keeping him away from the cricketing action.
The 31-year-old scored just 5 runs in 2 matches against Ireland and got out for a solitary run against England, which forced the selectors to play. Hence, the inconsistency is making things difficult for the CSK opener.
India Fans Greet Gautam Gambhir With Sanju Chants
After the 3rd T20i, both teams headed for their hotels, but the Indian fans had some other plans. Notably, as soon as Gautam Gambhir was making his way out of the ground, the fans greeted him with ‘We Want Sanju, Sanju’ chants.
Gambhir didn't pay any heed to the fans and walked towards the bus. However, the head coach is under scrutiny because India have gone 5 matches without a win.
