3 England batters India must be aware of in ODI series

1. Harry Brook

Why could Harry Brook be a threat to India in IND Vs ENG ODIs?

  • Recent form: Harry Brook has shown remarkable form in ODIs this year. The England captain has hammered 184 runs, averaging 92 and striking at 120.26 across three ODI innings in 2026. His recent form makes Brook a danger-man for the Indian bowling unit.
  • Stroke-play and nerves of steel: Harry Brook can play shots all around the park using his magical wrists. His 360-degree stroke-play and ability to step up as England's crisis man could help him dismantle the Indian bowling attack in the IND Vs ENG ODIs.

2. Joe Root

Why could Joe Root be a threat to India in IND Vs ENG ODIs?

  • Overall record vs India: Joe Root is one of England's most successful ODI batters against India. He has slammed 851 runs, including three hundreds and four fifties, at a solid average of 42.55 and a strike rate of 83.67.
  • Exceptional strike-rotator: While England's lineup is loaded with swashbucklers, Joe Root brings an element of calmness with his steady approach. He has been their Mr consistent over the years, scoring 7577 runs at an average of 49.5 in ODI cricket. His ability to rotate strike and frustrate the spinners with excellent feet movement, sweeps and reverse-sweeps makes Joe Root a player to watch out for in the IND Vs ENG ODIs.

Ben Duckett

Why could Ben Duckett be a threat to India in IND Vs ENG ODIs?

  • Quick starter in powerplay: Ben Duckett is one of the most destructive openers in white-ball cricket. The explosive southpaw has struck 950 runs at a strike rate of 102.04 since 2024. More importantly, Duckett can capitalise on the powerplay field restrictions and dominate India's new-ball attack, having struck at a rate of 99.6 in the first ten overs since 2024.
  • Spin-hitting prowess: Ben Duckett is arguably England's finest player of spin bowling. The left-hander can demolish India's spin unit, having amassed 573 runs at a strike rate of 107.9. Considering India have a tendency to pick spin-heavy attacks, even on foreign soil, Duckett could be a big headache for the tourists in the IND Vs ENG ODIs.
