India won the five-match T20I series against New Zealand. However, head coach Gautam Gambhir's explosive press conference following the fifth T20I in Hamilton has grabbed attention.
India won the first three T20Is to seal the series but lost the final two games. Despite the defeats not affecting the series result, Gambhir opened up on some pressing questions.
Gautam Gambhir Says There Is No Word Like 'Fear' In His Dictionary
India started the five-match T20I series against New Zealand with a remarkable win at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Chasing 226, the visitors produced an impressive performance despite having limited preparation time after arriving in the country.
Gautam Gambhir was impressed with the team's fearless approach and ability to handle pressure in challenging circumstances. He highlighted how the players delivered a series-opening victory despite a long journey.
“There is no word like ‘dar’ (fear) in my dictionary and directory. The way our boys handled pressure, winning first game after 15-hour flight and one practice session was commendable,” Gambhir said in press conference after 5th T20I.
The Indian head coach's remarks reflected his belief in backing the team's aggressive approach and maintaining composure under pressure. The opening victory also set the tone for India, who went on to win the first three matches and seal the series.
Gautam Gambhir Opens Up On His Workload Management Across Formats
There has been considerable rotation in the Indian team, with several players rested to manage workloads across formats. India also lost the final two T20Is against New Zealand after winning the first three matches. Gambhir was asked about his own workload.
“I am ready to take the bullet… it gets tough. I am also human but I am up for the challenge and that's my job,” Gambhir said.
Gambhir acknowledged the demands of coaching India across formats but maintained that he was prepared to shoulder the responsibility. India will now face New Zealand in a five-match ODI series followed by two Test matches.
