India created history, becoming the first team in the world to hit 400 sixes in T20Is in a calendar year on Sunday, November 1, 2026. The historic milestone came during IND vs NZ 5th T20I at Seddon Park in Hamilton.

 In their 40th T20I of 2026, Indian batters smashed 11 sixes to reach the record-breaking total.

It is worth noting that no other team has managed to reach the 400-sixes mark in a calendar year. India have also improved significantly from their previous record of 289 sixes in 2022.

Naman Dhir Hits Historic 400th Six For India

The previous record for the most sixes in a calendar year belonged to Austria, who hit 326 sixes in 36 matches in 2025. Among full-member nations, India's previous best was 289 sixes in 40 matches in 2022.

It is important to note that India's star player Naman Dhir hit the historic 400th six against New Zealand. He top-edged a flick off Blair Tickner in the 19th over, sending the ball over the fine-leg boundary. 

The Shreyas Iyer-led India finished their first innings at 191/8. Ishan Kishan led the batting effort with five sixes during his 32-ball 61 at a strike rate of 217.39.

The Indian T20I captain also contributed with a 23-ball 50 at a strike rate of 190.63.

Teams With Most Sixes In A Calendar Year

India are comfortably at the top of the list of teams with the most sixes in a calendar year in T20Is. Austria are second with 326 sixes in 2025, while India also occupy third place with 289 sixes in 2022.

Another remarkable part of India's record is their performance against New Zealand. Out of the 400 sixes hit by India in 2026, 142 have come against the Black Caps. This is the most sixes hit by any team against a single opponent in a calendar year.

• 142 - India vs New Zealand, 2026*
• 117 - New Zealand vs India, 2026*
• 111 - Cambodia vs Indonesia, 2025 

It is also important to note that opener Abhishek Sharma has led India's six-hitting charts with 86 sixes, followed by Ishan Kishan with 60 and Sanju Samson with 50.
