Team India, on Thursday, created history as the Shreyas Iyer-led side recorded their highest successful T20I chase to stun New Zealand in the first game of the series. India needed a tricky 226 to go 1-0 up in the series, and the Men in Blue cruised past the target to etch their names in history books.

Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma laid the platform for the win, and Shreyas Iyer and Naman Dhir took the mantle forward as India won the 1st T20I and secured their highest successful chase.

India's run-chase in three halves

India’s historic run-chase against New Zealand can be summed up in three halves - powerplay batting, middle overs, and death overs.

The foundation was laid in the first six overs as Sanju Samson ran riot to help India score 94/1. New Zealand choked the flow of runs in the middle overs as India added 25/2 in the next four overs (7-10).

However, the visitors went berserk from 11 to 19.4 as India scored 111 runs, at a run rate of 11.48 to help secure the win.
