In a recent crossover, NFL legend Tom Brady recognised Indian cricket star Virat Kohli’s massive global popularity, especially on social media. The video of the incident instantly went viral on social media.

Kohli is one of the world’s most popular athletes. Besides the cricketing world, he earned recognition as a global superstar in the entire sports fraternity. Naturally, his fame also reached NFL star Tom Brady.

Tom Brady is impressed with Virat Kohli

During an appearance on the “Stick to Football” podcast, hosted by former footballers like Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright, NFL star Tom Brady took part in a quiz about the most-followed athletes on Instagram.

The panel first named Cristiano Ronaldo as the most-followed athlete on Instagram, followed by Lionel Messi. Then they had to guess the third name.

Many struggled, but Tom Brady correctly answered, “Virat Kohli, the cricketer from India,” leaving the rest of the members on the panel shocked.

This is surprising because Tom Brady is an American football legend and spent his career in the NFL, so cricket is outside his usual sporting world. Yet, Virat Kohli and his global popularity didn’t fail to reach him.

Other popular names of the list included football star Neymar Jr, NBA legend LeBron James, English footballer David Beckham and France footballer Kylian Mbappé.

Tom Brady’s cricket connection

Interestingly, Tom Brady’s interest in cricket goes way beyond. He joined the US-based investment group Knighthead Capital to buy a 49% stake in Birmingham Phoenix, one of the eight teams in The Hundred.

The deal was reportedly worth around £40 million. Apart from Brady, England and Real Madrid football star Jude Bellingham also bought a minority stake in Birmingham Phoenix.

This happened after the ECB put The Hundred franchises on sale recently to salvage the tournament after back-to-back flop seasons.

Many IPL franchises like Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals and LSG also bought majority stakes in multiple The Hundred teams and later rebranded them.

Who is Tom Brady?

Tom Brady is one of the greatest players in the history of American football (NFL) and is widely considered the greatest quarterback of all time. Brady dominated the NFL for more than two decades, mainly with the New England Patriots and later the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He won 7 Super Bowl titles and 5 Super Bowl MVP awards and played 23 seasons at the highest level. At age 43, Brady left New England and joined Tampa Bay.

In his first season there, he won another Super Bowl, proving he could succeed outside the Patriots system. After retiring, Tom Brady didn't settle. He instead moved into business and sports investments to stay connected to the sporting world.
