Bangladesh will play against Australia in a historic two-match Test series, starting August 13, 2026, and even before the contest has begun, the touring Asian side has been jolted by an injury to one of their key players.

With Ebadot Hossain also unlikely for the two-match Test series, Bangladesh are likely going to be short in pace-bowling resources, as Nahid Rana has been ruled out of the Australia Test match due to an injury.

Injury rules out Nahid Rana for Australia Test tour

The tearaway pacer was expected to be Bangladesh’s biggest weapon in the upcoming Test series, but now the Asian side has to play without him as Rana’s latest injury setback has derailed Bangladesh’s plans.

The pacer sustained a side strain injury during the recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe, and underwent scans after returning back to his nation.

Nahid Rana’s injury has come at a tricky time for the Bangladesh team as they already have several players doubtful for the all-important Australia Tests.

“Rana is set to miss the Australia series,” BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury told The Daily Star on Saturday.

According to Daily Star, there are five Bangladesh players apart from Nahid who are nursing injuries, and a detailed report will be prepared soon.

Why Nahid Rana's injury will be a disaster for Bangladesh Test team

The Australian conditions demand teams to have top-quality pacers who can wreak havoc with sheer pace and bounce. Nahid Rana’s injury has derailed Bangladesh’s plans as they now have to find an alternative, someone who can terrorise the Aussies with pace.

Rana has the ability to bowl at 145 km/h, and the fast and bouncy Australian wickets would have suited his style of bowling.

Moreover, the right-arm pacer was in dream white-ball form in 2026, and the team management expected him to replicate the same in the upcoming two-match Test series. However, Nahid Rana’s injury has pushed the Bangladesh side on the back foot even before the series has started.

Bangladesh doesn't have a like-for-like Nahid Rana replacement

Unfortunately for the Tigers, the team doesn’t have a suitable Nahid Rana replacement in the Test squad. The Asian side has bowlers with excellent skill sets, but they do not have someone who can bowl at an express pace to trouble the best in the business.

The likes of Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain have the skills, but they do not have the ability to extract the pace and bounce from the Australian surface to push Australia on the back foot.

Litton Das still injured, Ebadot Hossain on stand-by

Wicket-keeper batter Litton Das is still nursing an injury, and his participation is also doubtful. The right-handed batter sustained a hamstring injury, and the team management is awaiting his scan results.

With Nahid Rana’s injury putting him on the shelf, Bangladesh management has put Ebadot Hossain on stand-by. Ebadot was initially ruled out of the two-match series due to personal reasons.

He is currently in Italy after opting out of the Test squad. Daily Star has mentioned that if Ebadot manages to return to the country by July 30 and obtain his Australian visa, then he could be included in the Bangladesh Test squad as Nahid Rana’s replacement.
