In a massive setback for Bangladesh, experienced batter Litton Das has been ruled out of the ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe. Litton was initially included in the Bangladesh ODI squad vs Zimbabwe; however, he didn't feature in the opening encounter in Harare, where the home side secured a thrilling 25-run victory.

Why has Litton Das been ruled out of BAN Vs ZIM ODI series?

Notably, Litton Das has been ruled out of the Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe ODI series due to a hamstring injury. He sustained the injury during the recently concluded ODI series between Bangladesh and Australia.

The seasoned campaigner played all three matches of the ODI series against the Aussies, even slamming a valiant fifty in the final encounter at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. However, he sustained a hamstring injury in the same game, eventually getting sidelined from the subsequent T20I series.

The hamstring injury jeopardised the participation of Litton Das in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. Although he was included in the Bangladesh ODI squad vs Zimbabwe, his failure to clear the fitness test forced the BCB to announce his replacement for the remaining two matches of the series.

"Litton had already missed the first ODI and is still not match fit. He underwent a fitness test today and the outcome was not satisfactory. With back-to-back ODIs coming up, we don't think he will make sufficient progress to play any part in the series," Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Litton has been released from the team and will continue his rehabilitation in Dhaka. He will also miss the T20I series against Zimbabwe due to his commitment to the Lanka Premier League, starting on July 17.

Who is Litton Das' replacement in Bangladesh ODI squad vs Zimbabwe?

The BCB has announced Parvez Hossain Emon as Litton Das' replacement for the remaining two ODIs of the Bangladesh tour of Zimbabwe 2026. The left-handed batter has played three ODIs for the Bangladesh team, amassing 108 runs, including one half-century, at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 83.7.

Parvez Hossain Emon empowers Bangladesh with a destructive batting option in the top order.

His aggressive mindset and attacking style make him a valuable asset for the visitors as they seek redemption in the second ODI after failing to chase a modest 142-run target in the series opener at Harare Sports Club.

Will Parvez Hossain Emon get a game in BAN Vs ZIM ODIs?

Having said that, whether Parvez Hossain Emon will get a match in the BAN Vs ZIM ODIs remains a difficult question.

Although Bangladesh witnessed a horrendous batting collapse in the first ODI, Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto still have a stronger reputation as top-order batters than Parvez Hossain Emon.

Therefore, unless the visitors' management takes a drastic step and drops one of these proven performers, the chance of Litton Das' replacement getting a game is bleak.

Bangladesh updated ODI squad vs Zimbabwe: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Najmul Hossain Shanto (Vice-Captain), Parvez Hossain Emon, Soumya Sarkar, Mohammed Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Tawhid Hridoy, Musaddek Hossain Saikat, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana
