The long list of injury concerns continue to pile up for the Mumbai Indians as two more players have been ruled out of the competition just ahead of their final match of the season.

Quinton de Kock, who started his season with a 112(60) and all-rounder Raj Bawa will take no further part in the tournament as they suffer season-ending injuries. The five-time champions have named replacement players the evening before their match against the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.

MI announce new injury replacement

On the eve of their annual ESA match, where MI invited around 20,000 underprivileged kids for the afternoon match at the Wankhede Stadium, IPL’s official website confirmed that the aforementioned stars will be unavailable for their final game.

Quinton de Kock has been replaced by Mahipal Lomror, while domestic wicketkeeper batter Ruchit Ahir will take Raj Bawa’s spot in the MI roster.

de Kock was bought by MI at the base price of INR 1 crore, and his replacement, Mahipal Lomror, will join the squad for INR 50 lakh. Similarly, Raj Bawa, who was swooped in for INR 30 lakh, is replaced for the same sum by Ruchit Ahir.

The 26-year-old Mahipal Lomror has previously played 40 IPL matches for 527 runs at a strike rate of 141.28. He has spent time with the Rajasthan Royals and the Royal Challengers Benglauru from 2018 to 2024.

Notably, this will be the first time the Saurashtra wicketkeeper Ruchit Ahir will be a part of an IPL team after making a name for himself in the domestic circuit and the DY Patil T20 Tournament.

Why are de Kock and Raj Bawa ruled out of IPL 2026?

Earlier this season, it was announced that Quinton de Kock had a tendon injury in the left wrist before the clash against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has already flown back to South Africa for further treatment and subsequent rehabilitation for the blow.

On the other hand, Raj Bawa, who bowled the final over in the cliffhanger against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, sustained a ligament tear on his right thumb when MI faced the Punjab Kings in Dharamsala on May 14.

“Both Quinton and Raj Bawa will continue their rehab in their respective homes, with support and guidance from the Mumbai Indians medical team to help them return to play as soon as possible,” the official MI press release said.

Despite being replaced, the duo will be available for retention ahead of IPL 2027.

MI look to end RR’s IPL 2026

The Mumbai Indians, who struggled to find form in IPL 2026, were the second team knocked out of the competition after the Lucknow Super Giants. They are placed 9th on the table at the time of announcement, with only 8 wins in 13 matches.

However, their opponent, RR are at 14 points, and they need to win their final match to directly qualify for the playoffs without depending on other results. While it remains to be seen whether the new signings get game time on Sunday, if MI end the season on a high, RR could go home early in IPL 2026.
