Pakistan’s return to the ODI set-up has not gone as planned. The Men in Green suffered humiliation in the first ODI against Bangladesh at Mirpur Stadium. The Men in Green, batting first, tumbled for just 114 runs, resulting in mockery and embarrassment.
Notably, before the start of the series, Shaheen Afridi tackled reporters by stating that the team is focusing on the 2027 ODI World Cup. The Pakistan captain was quickly reminded of his remarks following the dismal batting show in Mirpur.
Shaheen Afridi Fails To Lead From Front
Pakistan were reduced to 77/7 when Shaheen walked to bat. The southpaw had Faheem Ashraf on the other end, and the duo could have stayed together to stitch a long partnership. However, Shaheen played some reckless cricket and returned to the pavilion after scoring 4 (4), which featured a solitary boundary.
The fans were upset with Shaheen’s careless cricket and were expecting more from their captain. The viewers took to social media platforms to express their agony and also demanded an explanation from the left-arm seamer for the shambolic show.
Bangladesh Fans Insult Shaheen Afridi
Criticism is fine, and it should come Pakistan and Shaheen Afridi’s way. However, a few Bangladesh fans crossed the line when they mocked and teased Afridi by making derogatory chants. In a video that is now going viral on the internet, Afridi was called ‘Bhua Bhua’ which translates to an under-performing player but in a derogatory way.
Shaheen did not respond to the chants and returned to the pavilion without reacting to the incident.

Litton Das Too Dealt Same Issue During BPL 2025
Notably, Shaheen Afridi is not the first cricketer to have been insulted by these derogatory remarks during BPL 2025. The incident occurred during the Dhaka Capitals vs Fortune Barishal match, where Litton Das represented the Dhaka Capitals.
Das was angry and looked angrily at the crowd but didn't hurl anything to avoid getting into trouble. Violent crowd and derogatory chants has been an issue in Bangladesh as fans tend to cross the line.
Bangladesh Register Comfortable Win Over Pakistan
Talking about the 1st ODI, Pakistan fielded four debutants but Sahibzada Farhan was the only one who got a positive start. Nahid Rana rattled Pakistani batters and picked up a five-wicket haul.
Faheem Ashraf played a 37-run knock and saved his side from falling under 100 runs. Eventually, the Men in Green put 114 runs on the board. In reply, captain Shaheen Afridi picked up an early wicket but Bangladesh chased down the total in just 15 overs.
Pakistan missed Babar Azam in this important clash. For the unversed, former captain was left out of ODI squad as PCB wanted to try out young talent.
