The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) thrashed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday to win their second match in the IPL 2026. Tim David and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were two of the key destroyers during RCB's 43-run victory against Chennai.

As Bengaluru posted the tallest total of the season and the highest-ever vs CSK, Tim David was the mainstay with the bat as he blasted an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls. The Singaporean-Australian batter slammed his highest IPL score after getting a lifeline when Anshul Kamboj bowled him on a no-ball.

David's exploits took RCB to 250/3, and later the bowlers defended the total on a rather batting paradise. Although CSK batters were able to get to 207, they lost 10 wickets in the process.

Bhuvneshwar on Tim David's knock

With the new ball, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jacob Duffy slanted the game in their favour, but Chennai’s middle and lower-middle order gave a tough fight.

While commenting on the same, the IPL veteran, Bhuvneshwar, made a chucklesome statement when asked whether he enjoyed Tim David’s innings.

"Yes, absolutely. I mean, I wasn't sure that we should be happy or we should be worried because we had to bowl next (in the second innings),” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said in the post-match presentation.

Moreover, Bhuvneshwar also spoke on bagging over 200 wickets in the IPL.

"It's good to get the rewards for what you have been doing for years. So, I mean, happy for that."

The RCB seamer has the most IPL wickets as a fast bowler, and is only behind Punjab's Yuzvendra Chahal.

RCB scripted a famous win over CSK

After being put to bat first, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt came out all guns blazing for Bengaluru. Although Kohli was dismissed for 28, Salt (43 off 30) continued with his stand with Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 29).

However, the game turned in RCB's favour when Tim David and Rajat Patidar batted together. The Bengaluru skipper hit 48* off 19 balls, while David was the showstopper of the evening. Not only did he score 70 not out, but the burly batter punctured Chennai’s hopes, with the the highlight moment when he thumped four sixes off a 30-run Jamie Overton over

Although the reigning champions had enough runs on the board, CSK's Sarfaraz Khan and Prashant Veer gave them a scare. After losing three wickets inside the powerplay, Khan came out attacking to smash a 25-ball 50, while Veer scored his 43 off 29 balls.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged the all-important wicket of Ayush Mhatre. Later, in his final spell, he removed a good-looking Prashant Veer and then bagged Noor Ahmad's number as well.

Bhuvneshwar was one of the RCB bowlers to take multiple wickets, with Duffy, Abhinandan Singh and Krunal Pandya taking two wickets apiece. Meanwhile, the ever-economical Suyash Sharma returned with 1 for 21 in his four.

With this victory, RCB have taken Chennai for the fourth successive time in the IPL.

What's next for RCB, CSK?

RCB have started the IPL 2026 with a bang, winning both games. They are currently sitting at the top of the table with an NRR of +2.501. Their next matches are away fixtures against Rajasthan this Friday and Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

Meanwhile, CSK has yet to open their account on the points table. They will next face Delhi at home this Saturday.

Moreover, RCB and CSK won’t play each other this season unless both qualify for the playoffs.
