Vijay Mallya, one of the founding members of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has been vocal about the franchise's success in recent times. Mallya, who now resides in London, left his ownership of the franchise in March 2016, stepping down from his position as chairman of the team due to financial and legal issues.
Now, after RCB dominated Chennai Super Kings at Chinnaswamy in IPL 2026 on April 5, Vijay Mallya spoke about the historic IPL occasion on his official social media account.
Bengaluru Enjoy Special Win Over CSK At Chinnaswamy
Royal Challengers Bengaluru handed a thumping defeat to Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026, thanks to Tim David’s mammoth knock of 70 off 25 balls and a consistent display of top-order hitting from the RCB batters.
CSK bowlers were mere spectators as Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, and Rajat Patidar continued the onslaught one after another.
However, the final nail in CSK's coffin was Tim David's monstrous innings, where he smashed eight sixes and three boundaries at a strike rate of 280.00. Jamie Overton was especially punished, conceding 30 runs in his over against David.
In response, Chennai could not keep up with the required run rate and eventually lost the match by 43 runs. Speaking on this victory of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mallya took to his official X handle to share a special congratulatory message.

Vijay Mallya’s Long Association With RCB
Mallya, who was the founding member of the franchise in 2008, transferred full control of the team to Diageo-controlled United Spirits in 2016. His departure marked the end of his direct association with the team he bought for USD 111 million in 2008.
However, even after leaving the franchise, it remains a passion project for the business tycoon, who still keeps Bengaluru close to his heart.
"I would like to heartily congratulate the new owners of the franchise. I wish them the very best and Godspeed with the most valuable IPL franchise.
When I bought the franchise in 2008 for INR 450 crores, most people laughed at me and criticised my investment as a vanity project. Behind my much-touted madness was building the Royal Challenge brand, and hence I named the franchise RCB," Mallya wrote earlier in one of his tweets.
Vijay Mallya Congratulates Bengaluru
Speaking after the team's massive win over CSK, Mallya congratulated the team for their domination at Chinnaswamy.
“Congratulations RCB namma Sinhagulu. You roared like the Lion of Bengaluru against your arch rivals. Onward and Upward,” Mallya wrote.
Notably, Vijay Mallya has always been one of the closest admirers of the franchise and has stated that the team will always remain a part of his DNA, recalling memories of a young Virat Kohli being picked, who is now among the best cricketers in the world.
RCB At The Top Of The IPL 2026 Points Table
Nevertheless, the special win scripted by Tim David now puts Bengaluru one step closer in the head-to-head battle, where CSK have won 22 out of the 37 matches played between the two sides.
With the dominance continuing, the franchise will look to carry forward the momentum, as they currently top the table after winning 2 out of 2 matches and maintaining a strong net run rate of 2.501.
Their next clash will be against the Rajasthan Royals, another in-form side in IPL 2026, on April 10 at Rajasthan's home ground in Guwahati, Assam.
