The 2026 edition of the PSL has reached a crucial stage, but the tournament is unfolding in an unusual way. Matches are being played without spectators after the Pakistan Cricket Board, led by chairman Mohsin Naqvi, made the announcement earlier that the tournament will take place without fans due to a fuel crisis linked to ongoing tensions in West Asia.
The move has drawn comparisons with the IPL 2026, which is being held with full fan attendance. Now that the PSL has crossed its halfway mark, pressure is building on authorities to reconsider the decision.
PSL 2026 So Far
This season marks a major shift in the PSL format. The league was expanded to eight teams- Hyderabad Kingsmen and a rebranded Rawalpindiz side with the tournament limited to just two venues, Karachi and Lahore.
In terms of performance, Peshawar Zalmi have emerged as the standout team. They have played nine matches, winning eight and losing none, with 17 points and a strong net run rate of +2.645. Close behind are Multan Sultans, who have six wins from nine matches and 12 points.
Islamabad United sit third with nine points from eight matches, followed by Hyderabad Kingsmen with eight points from eight games. Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings are tied on eight points as well.

Quetta Gladiators have struggled, managing only three wins in nine matches, while Rawalpindiz are at the bottom with just one win and two points from nine games.
Mohsin Naqvi on crowd restrictions for PSL 2026 matches
It is important to note that earlier, Mohsin Naqvi said the restrictions were in line with the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. With the country facing a fuel shortage, citizens were asked to limit travel.
Mohsin Naqvi emphasised that allowing thousands of fans into stadiums daily would contradict these efforts. However, he has now indicated a willingness to revisit the decision. Speaking recently, he confirmed that he plans to discuss the matter again with the Prime Minister.
"I will speak again to the prime minister regarding the crowd," Naqvi told the media in Karachi.
He also reassured stakeholders that the tournament schedule would remain unchanged and that franchises would receive gate revenue compensation, while the PCB would handle operational costs.
Teams Unite for special demand to Mohsin Naqvi
In a significant development all PSL franchises have come together to request the return of spectators, at least for the playoffs and final. Reports suggest that the league management has formally approached the government with this proposal as per SAMAA.
"Sources said all franchises have also pressed the PSL administration to grant access to spectators. The final decision on allowing crowds in Pakistan Super League matches will rest with the Prime Minister of Pakistan." as per SAMAA.
Franchise owners believe that fan presence is essential to the identity and excitement of the PSL. However, the final decision now rests with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and there is growing hope that crowds may be allowed during the business end of the tournament.
