The much-anticipated El Clásico clash of the IPL 2026 between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings turned out to be a one-sided affair. Playing at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Indians suffered a crushing 103-run defeat on April 23, 2026.
Led by Hardik Pandya, MI have endured a disappointing start to the season, managing just two wins in their first seven matches. This latest defeat has pushed them further down the IPL 2026 points table and added several unwanted records to their name.
While MI bowlers like Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar picked up two wickets each, they failed to contain the scoring rate.
In response, Mumbai Indians had a disastrous start, they lost three wickets within the first three overs. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav tried to rebuild with a 73-run partnership, but once that stand was broken, the rest of the batting line-up collapsed.
MI were eventually bowled out for just 104 runs in 19 overs. The standout performer with the ball was Akeal Hosein, who took 4 wickets for just 17 runs. This huge margin of defeat (103 runs) became Mumbai Indians’ biggest loss in terms of runs in IPL history.
MI Lose Three Consecutive Matches at Home for First Time
This defeat also led to a historic low for Mumbai Indians at their home ground. For the first time in IPL history, MI have lost three consecutive matches at Wankhede Stadium in a single season.
These losses came against RCB (18 runs), Punjab Kings (7 wickets), and Chennai Super Kings (103 runs). This is particularly surprising because Wankhede has traditionally been a strong fortress for Mumbai.
Mumbai had never before lost three home matches in a row in the same IPL season.
Losing repeatedly at home means the team is struggling even in familiar conditions.
The 103-run defeat is now their worst-ever loss
