Earlier on the morning of February 2, there were reports suggesting that the International Cricket Council would hold a board meeting to discuss Pakistan’s decision to boycott the India match in the T20 World Cup 2026.

However, as per recent developments, the status quo continues, with Pakistan’s threat to boycott the India game yet to trigger any immediate action or meeting from ICC.

The ICC had earlier issued a strong statement saying it would not tolerate selective participation, which also served as a subtle warning to the nation’s governing bodies about the possible implications and the team’s future in the tournament.

No board meeting yet- PCB avoids writing official letter

As of the evening of February 2, a report from Cricbuzz stated that there has been no information about any board meeting, as confirmed by multiple directors of the board, whom the media outlet spoke to.

More surprisingly, the development also revealed that the Pakistan Cricket Board is yet to formally write to the ICC about its decision to forfeit the February 15 clash against India.

As things stand, the boycott threat exists only in a post on the Government of Pakistan’s social media handle on X, and social media posts are not considered an official mode of communication with the ICC.

Will Pakistan comply with ICC to play against India?

As matters progress, it is understood that the Pakistan Cricket Board may eventually comply with the ICC’s terms and reverse its decision to boycott the marquee fixture, as the Pakistan government has faced similar situations before where it has taken a U-turn on participation decisions.

Previously, during the Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan had threatened to pull out of the tournament due to India’s involvement and was almost ousted before eventually deciding to play the match barely half an hour before the scheduled start, following ICC warnings. Hence, there remains a possibility that Pakistan reconsiders its stance and plays India on February 15.

ICC sent official warning for Pakistan

For those unaware, the ICC issued an official statement on Sunday night, clearly outlining its position on selective participation as shown by Pakistan.

The organisation stated that any decision to play matches selectively would affect the spirit and sanctity of the competition, and the body enforcing non-participation could face serious consequences.

"While the ICC awaits official communication from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), this position of selective participation is difficult to reconcile with the fundamental premise of a global sporting event where all qualified teams are expected to compete on equal terms per the event schedule.

ICC tournaments are built on sporting integrity, competitiveness, consistency and fairness, and selective participation undermines the spirit and sanctity of the competitions," the ICC statement read.

However, there are still 48 hours left for a meeting to be scheduled with the Pakistan Cricket Board. Until then, while there are no signs of any board meeting announcement from the ICC, everything now depends on how the situation unfolds and what decision the ICC eventually takes regarding Pakistan.
