Suryavanshi charges at a player [Source: X]
The India vs Pakistan no-handshake controversy has not left the colosseum yet. After the high-profile Super Sixes Group 2 match between India and Pakistan on February 1, the post-match customary handshake once again became a hot topic of discussion.
Both the Indian and Pakistani teams avoided shaking hands with each other as this marked the eighth instance across formats and divisions in men’s and women’s cricket where the two sides have not joined hands either before or after a match.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s blood boils after India win match
What further added to the India vs Pakistan flare was Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s aggressive temperament on the field, which intensified the tension and anger between the two teams.
This rivalry has remained at the core of the clash since the 2025 Asia Cup, following the Pahalgam terror attack fiasco and the series of match boycott calls that is still echoing in the upcoming Men’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Why did Suryavanshi charge at the Pakistan player?
India won the match convincingly by 58 runs, successfully defending a target of 253 inside 50 overs. However, during Pakistan’s chase, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a 22-ball 30 in the match, appeared to be aggravated by Pakistan players.
Following a few aggressive gestures from Pakistan bowlers and batters earlier in the game, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was seen aggressively charging towards Ali Baloch after Vihaan Malhotra dismissed him in the 37th over.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi was visibly upset and agitated despite the wicket and seemed keen to exchange words with the Pakistan batter. However, Vihaan Malhotra rushed in to stop Suryavanshi from escalating the situation.
No handshake between India and Pakistan players after the match
This incident underlined what followed next. After there was no handshake between captains Ayush Mhatre and Farhan Yousuf at the toss, the post-match customary handshake was also avoided, with Team India players clearly uninterested in engaging with Pakistan players.

Both teams walked off the field separately. With the win, India qualified for the semi-finals alongside England, maintaining an unbeaten run of four wins from four matches, while Pakistan managed only two victories from their four Super Sixes group matches.
India dominate Pakistan in final Super Sixes Group 2 match
Speaking of the match, India dominated the Bulawayo ground with a strong all-round performance. Batting first, India posted 252 runs on the back of a couple of solid knocks, with Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s 30 and Vedant Trivedi scoring 68, while Kanishk Chauhan also chipped in with a valuable 35 off 29 balls.
With the ball, Khilan Patel impressed alongside skipper Ayush Matre, who picked up three wickets to dismantle Pakistan’s chase.
Pakistan struggled at 88 for 2 after 17 overs, and their middle order later crumbled like a house of cards after the 35th over, losing five wickets between 168 and 194 runs.
Nevertheless, this brought Pakistan’s campaign to an end, as India moved forward to the semi-finals, where they will face Afghanistan on February 4.
