Pakistan approach ICC against Bangladesh [Source: AFP, X]
The Pakistan cricket team suffered a heartbreaking defeat, as Bangladesh registered a historic 2-1 series win with a narrow victory in the third ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
Riding on Tanzid Hasan's scintillating century, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 290 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs. In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 279 in the very last delivery, thus losing the match by 11 runs.
While the intriguing contest captivated fans from both teams and kept them on the edge of their seats, a controversial decision in the final over ensured it concluded on a dramatic note.
It involved Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi and ace Bangladesh spinner Rishad Hossain, who bowled a tight last over to help his team emerge victorious in the contest.
However, as one decision by the on-field umpire went against the tourists, they approached Jay Shah's ICC and lodged a formal complaint after the game's conclusion, according to ESPNCricinfo.
An umpiring decision that cost Pakistan the game vs Bangladesh
The controversial incident happened in the final over when the Bangladeshi captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz handed the ball to his trump card, Rishad Hossain, to defend 14 runs in the final six deliveries.
The leg-spinner bowled magnificently, keeping Shaheen Afridi at bay and conceding only two runs off his first four balls.
However, it was his fifth delivery that shifted all focus from the fascinating contest to theatrics, stemming from a wide-ball decision followed by a DRS.

As Rishad bowled a full-length delivery, the ball spun sharply, with the wicket-keeper collecting it behind the stumps.
Initially, the umpire thought that Shaheen Afridi was beaten by the ball, hence calling it a wide as it went down the leg side.
However, as the Bangladesh players were sure that there was some contact, they went upstairs for an LBW to reverse the wide decision.
The street-smart decision by Mehidy Hasan Miraz worked wonders for the hosts, with the TV umpire reversing the wide call. It further brought down the equation to 12 off one ball, making it improbable for Pakistan to win the game from there.
Pakistan file ICC complaint accusing Bangladesh of foul play
Meanwhile, the Pakistani team thought that Bangladesh went for the review only after they saw the replay on the broadcasting screen.
As per the ICC rules, a team can ask for the DRS only before the broadcaster shows the replay on the big screen.
However, as the home team took the review after a significant delay, Pakistan believed their decision was influenced by the visual evidence, something they discovered after a thorough look at the big screen.
Therefore, the visitors felt cheated, complaining to the ICC match referee Neeyamur Rashid against Bangladesh and the on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena, who allowed them to go for the DRS.
Had the wide call been persisted, the Men in Green would've needed 11 runs from the last two balls, making it a mathematically possible scenario for their win. But the moment when the TV umpire reversed the on-field decision, the target became unreachable for them.
As per the report by ESPNCricinfo, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB wants an acknowledgement from the ICC match referee that the umpiring blunder played a key role in the Pakistani team's defeat to Bangladesh.
A series marred by controversies
The Pakistan Vs Bangladesh ODI series was marred by some major controversies. While Salman Ali Agha cried foul over his controversial run-out dismissal, the reversal of the wide decision ensured the series was remembered more for off-field issues than for on-field brilliance from the players.
