Bangladesh overcame Pakistan in a high-scoring third ODI in Mirpur. Centurion Tanzid Hasan and ace paceman Taskin Ahmed doused Salman Agha’s counterattacking ton as the hosts sealed the three-match series 2-1.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights from the third ODI of the three-match series between Bangladesh and Pakistan, as it panned out at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, March 15.

Tanzid Hasan tons up as Bangladesh mounts 290

Getting invited to bat first by Pakistan, hosts Bangladesh got off to a flier with an electrifying 125-run opening partnership between Saif Hassan and Tanzid Hasan in just 18.1 overs. The latter of the two openers served as Bangladesh’s early aggressor and raced to his half-century at a brisk pace.

Saif took his time and compiled 36 runs off 55 balls with three elegant boundaries before getting knocked over by Shaheen Afridi. Haris Rauf trapped Bangladesh’s number three Najmul Hossain Shanto a while later for 27 as the hosts reached 158-2 in 29.2 overs.

Tanzid Hasan, on the other hand, notched up his maiden ODI century and plundered 107 runs at run-a-ball to top score in the innings. The cricketer launched six boundaries and seven huge sixes during his attacking stay at the crease before he mistimed one off Abrar Ahmed.

Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy helmed Bangladesh’s run-scoring charge in the backend of the innings, with the experienced wicketkeeper-batter charting 41 off 51 balls. Hridoy himself smeared 48* off just 44 deliveries with four cracking boundaries. Aided with 26 extras including 15 wides by the Pakistani bowlers, Bangladesh scaled a competitive 290-5 in 50 overs.

For Pakistan, Haris Rauf picked up three of the five fallen Bangladeshi wickets to claim impressive figures of 3-52. Shaheen Afridi (1-55) and Abrar Ahmed (1-49) assisted the pacer with a wicket each.

Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana decimate Pakistan top-order

Chasing a monumental 291, Pakistan lost both openers Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat for six runs each to Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana respectively within the first two overs of the innings. Mohammad Rizwan at number four also made his way to the sheds after hitting a boundary as Pakistan stumbled to a troublesome 17-3 in 2.5 overs.

Ghazi Ghori compiled 29 runs off 39 balls, while number five Abdul Samad carved 34 with five boundaries to stabilize the Pakistan innings after their early setbacks. However, Nahid Rana and experienced pacer Mustafizur Rahman further jolted the ‘Men in Green’ with two quick wickets as the visitors lost half their side for just 82 on the board.

Salman Agha’s fightback goes in vain

Salman Agha led Pakistan’s counterattacking recovery by composing a regal 106 from 98 balls, sharing a 79-run partnership with Saad Masood (38 off 44), another 48 with Faheem Ashraf (nine off 20) and a quick 52 with captain Shaheen Afridi to take their team past the 250-run mark.

While Salman Agha was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed at a crucial stage, captain Shaheen kept Pakistan’s spark alive with his blistering 37-run cameo. However, some tight late bowling helped Bangladesh escape with a thrilling 11-run win to seal the ODI series 2-1.

For the hosts, Taskin Ahmed picked up a sensational four-fer, while Mustafizur Rahman snared figures of 3-54. Rishad Hossain (1-56) landed the knockout punch towards the end to script Bangladesh’s victory.
