Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, India’s most talked-about sensation of late due to his unreal ability to hit the ball clean and hard, made headlines on Tuesday when he was in action during the first quarter-final of the Duleep Trophy between East Zone and North East Zone, taking place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2, Bengaluru.
However, this time around, the 15-year-old took all the limelight for being an effective bowler, instead of having the willow in hand.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Opens First-Class Wicket Account
During the 26th over of North East Zone’s second innings, East Zone captain Ishan Kishan brought Vaibhav Sooryavanshi into the attack, replacing Shahbaz Ahmed. He conceded two runs off his opening over, and then struck twice inside four balls to grab all the attention in the following over.
Kishan Lyngdoh became Sooryavanshi’s first First-Class wicket, while Imliwati Lemtur returned to the pavilion soon after nicking behind to Kishan in the same 28th over.

Lyngdoh came down the attack against Sooryavanshi to attack him, only to find a huge leading edge towards the cover region. East Zone’s substitute fielder Denish Das made no mistake after calling for it and completed the catch to help Sooryavanshi enjoy his first First-Class wicket of his career.

Lemtur, on the other hand, had an outside edge three balls later, off Sooryavanshi. Ishan Kishan, with the big gloves behind the stumps, pouched it cleanly with impressive reflexes. In the process, Sooryavanshi had two wickets in quick succession.
The BCCI, as expected, took little time to post the video of Sooryavanshi’s wickets on social media, and no wonder it became viral immediately after.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Bowling Style
With a distinctive bat swing, Sooryavanshi is known for showing no respect to the bowlers on the field, irrespective of who he is and whatever he has done throughout their illustrious careers. This is how he has built a reputation with fans for keeping their eyes glued to the television or streaming channels.
However, there might be a small audience that has an idea about how he bowls.
Sooryavanshi is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler with an action characterised by impressive hip rotation. And on Tuesday, he gave an indication of being a reliable part-time bowler for India in the future.
In fact, he appears to be very similar to Sachin Tendulkar. Sooryavanshi often had the privilege of being compared to him because he, too, began his professional career at such a young age and delivered breakthroughs for India at regular intervals whenever given the opportunity to roll his arm.

Nevertheless, Tuesday was not the first time Sooryavanshi drew attention as a bowler. Though it is a fact that he has never taken a wicket in his senior career until Tuesday, neither in T20s nor in List A cricket.
In July 2025, Sooryavanshi represented India U19 against England U19 in a Youth Test in Beckenham. There, in the first innings, he bowled 13 overs and took two wickets, which included one of England’s next-gen superstar batters, Thomas Rew.
