Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir made a bold prediction about young Pakistan batter Maaz Sadaqat after his impressive performance against Bangladesh. He compared Maaz to India’s young talent, Abhishek Sharma.

In the second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur, the 20-year-old opener played an aggressive innings of 75 runs off 46 balls with a strike rate of 163. His knock included 6 fours and 5 sixes as well.

Mohammad Amir likens Maaz Sadaqat to Abhishek Sharma

Maaz Sadaqat starred with an impressive knock in Pakistan's 128-run victory against Bangladesh in the second ODI. His fiery intent prompted former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir to compare him to India's explosive opener and future prospect, Abhishek Sharma.

In his recent video, Amir backed Sadaqat to be Pakistan’s Abhishek Sharma. The comparison stemmed from the fact that both players are left-handed attacking openers.

“I don’t know if Abhishek Sharma should be in our team or not. But now that you have seen the potential in Maaz Sadaqat, you should pay special attention to how we should make him a player," Amir said.

They are fearless power hitters and are capable of dominating bowlers early in the innings. According to Mohammad Amir, Sadaqat has the same explosive potential if he continues to develop properly.

That being said, as history suggests, talent alone is not enough to excel in Pakistan cricket. Mohammad Amir echoed a similar sentiment, saying that young players succeed only if the team management and system guide them properly.

Hence, he urged the captain, board, and team management to protect Maaz Sadaqat from distractions and help improve his technique.

“Player, apko pata hai captain, management, and the system banata hai aur bigadta bhi wahi hai. I am telling you this from my experience. It is his (Maaz’s) job and our system’s job as well to not distract him and to keep him focused. If you pay attention to Maaz Sadaqat and he works on his technique, he can become a player," he added.

Pakistan to face Bangladesh in series decider

Meanwhile, the three-game ODI series between Bangladesh and Pakistan is level at 1-1 after the visitors beat the hosts by 128 runs in the second game at Mirpur.

That game was clouded by Salman Agha’s run-out controversy, and later rain impacted the proceedings significantly. Eventually, Pakistan bowled out Bangladesh on 114 runs in a 243-run chase to seal a mega DLS victory.

Haris Rauf and Maaz Sadaqat bowled heroic spells, picking up 3 wickets each. Maaz was unsurprisingly awarded the player of the match trophy for his all-round brilliance.

The third ODI, which is also the series decided, will be played on March 15 at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka, Mirpur, at 1:45 PM IST.
