Team India has wrapped up the group stage fixtures with an unbeaten streak, but opener Abhishek Sharma’s dry run has been a massive concern for the team. In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, he has yet to score his first run.
After being dismissed for a duck against the Netherlands in the last match, concerns over his poor form intensified. Reflecting on this, former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir took a sharp dig at the Indian opener.
Amir takes a sharp swipe at Abhishek Sharma’s batting woes
In recent times, Team India has found a beast in Abhishek Sharma, as his outstanding batting ability has become a massive weapon for the T20I side. Since his debut, the youngster turned heads with his explosive batting, but the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 has been a massive woe for him.
Starting the tournament opener against the USA, he departed on a duck and missed the second clash against Namibia. Even after returning against Pakistan, he walked on a duck, and even in the last match against the Netherlands, he scored a three-ball duck.

As his dry form has become a concern for the Men in Blue, former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir took a sharp dig at the Indian opener. Drawing comparisons with Saim Ayub, Amir criticised the Indian batter’s overly aggressive approach.
“When Saim came into the PSL, he was hitting no look shots & nobody knew his weakness. Now, on 3rd or 4th stump, he can’t decide what to do. Same for Abhishek, he wants every ball in the slot,” Amir said.
Abhishek’s lean patch emerges as a major headache for India
Since making his debut in July 2024, Abhishek Sharma has been the strongest weapon for Team India’s opening position in the shortest format. In front of his power-hitting, the opponent bowlers often face nightmare but that domination took a pause when the Men in Blue needed it the most.
His dry run in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 has become a massive headache for the Indian side. The opener has had a terrible run, failing to score even a single run in three matches. His early dismissals have put the top order under pressure and made things difficult for the rest of the batters.
Even though Team India is still unbeaten in the tournament, some bigger challenges are waiting for them in the upcoming Super Eight stage. Before entering the next phase, the team badly needs his strong comeback to make the top order more fierce.
Bigger hurdles await India in pressure packed Super Eight phase
The defending champions are ready to face tougher challenges in the Super Eight stage, with some strong opponents ahead. Stepping into the big stage, they will face South Africa as their first opponent on February 22.
As their second match of the Super Eight stage is set to happen on February 26, the opponent has yet to be decided. On March 1, they will face the West Indies in their final match of the stage as they aim to defend their title and create history.
