Abhishek Sharma got knocked over by Netherlands’ Aryan Dutt for a three-ball duck in match number 36 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Opening the innings alongside in-form partner Ishan Kishan at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, Abhishek made his way back to the sheds in the first over of the match.

The dismissal also marked Abhishek Sharma’s third duck in succession this tournament, and his fifth duck overall in his last seven T20I innings for Team India. As the 25-year-old struggles to put together a run on the board, his latest failure sparked yet another meme-fest among Indian cricket fans on social media.

Indian fans call out Abhishek Sharma for flop show

Indian opener Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a three-ball duck by Netherlands off-spinner Aryan Dutt in the first over of the match. Failing to score a single run after his three innings so far in the tournament, a legion of Indian cricket fans took to social media and expressed their criticism over Abhishek’s repeated inclusions in the playing XI.

Some fans also shared hilarious memes at the expense of the struggling opener, with few even comparing his batting to that of Mohammed Siraj considering the 25-year-old was spotted wearing the fast bowler’s jersey. Here is a look at some of the fans reacting to Abhishek Sharma’s third successive duck in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Abhishek Sharma misfiring at the worst time for Team India

Abhishek Sharma shot himself to global prominence with his explosive 54-ball 135 against England in Mumbai last year. The blistering opener also won the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award after India’s Asia Cup 2025 win, and starred in a series win in Australia.

Unfortunately for the Indian cricket team, young Abhishek lost his groove just a couple of weeks in the lead-up to the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The left-hander was dismissed for two ducks in the final four T20Is of India’s home series against New Zealand last month.

Moreover, even at the ongoing showpiece event in India and Sri Lanka, the cricketer has failed to notch up a single run, registering three ducks in successive innings. With five ducks in his last seven T20I innings, the Indian team management might well be forced to at least consider a change at the top order while heading into the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

India loses both openers early in final Group A game

Team India became the first team from Group A to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With wins in each of their first matches, the ‘Men in Blue’ held a formidable NRR of 3.050 before the game against Netherlands.

However, another win over Netherlands at this stage will help Team India maintain its unbeaten run before the crucial Super 8 round.

Winning the toss and batting first, India lost both openers, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, inside the opening powerplay overs.
