Mehidy Hasan slams Salman Agha for controversial run-out [Source: X]
The second ODI between Bangladesh and Pakistan on Friday had a controversial moment involving Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Salman Agha. The incident left a deep scar and somewhat tarnished the cricketing relations between the two nations as things turned ugly on the field.
The event occurred during the 39th over of the Pakistan innings when batter Mohammad Rizwan played a shot back to Mehidy, who was bowling from the other end. Just as Mehidy was going to collect the ball, he collided with Salman Agha, who was out of his crease.
Bangladesh captain defends his actions in 2nd ODI
Before the Pakistan batter could get back in safely, the Bangladesh bowler had the presence of mind to inflict a run-out at the non-striker's end by throwing the ball at the stumps. Mehidy appealed for a run-out as the decision was sent upstairs, and it went in Bangladesh’s favour as a furious Salman Agha had to walk back.
Pakistan fans on social media are going after Mehidy for not showing the “sportsman-spirit”, but the Bangladesh captain defended himself by stating that he attempted the run-out because the batter was well outside his crease.
“He was away from the wicket, and I was just looking for the ball. If you miss, he would go for the run. So I was just thinking like that,” the 28-year-old said at the post-match presentation.
When the run-out happened, Salman Agha had a heated exchange with Mehidy, as the two players were involved in an argument before the batter left for the pavilion.
Furious Salman Agha taunts Mehidy
Salman Agha taunted Mehidy Hasan during the post-match presser as he questioned his sportsmanly spirit.
"I think sportsman spirit has to be there," Agha said. "What he [Mehidy] has done is in the law. I think if he thinks it's right, it's right, but if you ask me my perspective, I would have done differently. I would have gone for sportsman spirit. We haven't done this [type of thing] previously, we would never do that in the future as well," he added.
"Actually, the ball hit on my pad and then my bat," he said. "So I thought he can't get me run-out now, because the ball already hit on my pad and my bat. I was just trying to give him the ball back. I was not looking for the run or anything like that, but he already decided [to make the run-out]."

Pakistan thrash Bangladesh to level the series
After getting drubbed in the first ODI against Bangladesh, the Men in Green bounced back as they inflicted a heavy defeat to level the 3-match ODI series. In overcast conditions, Pakistan batted first and, riding on a stellar 75 off 46 from Maaz Sadaqat and a clinical fifty from Salman Agha, the team posted a competitive 274.
The match was marred due to rain, and in reply, the Bangladesh batting lineup crumbled as they struggled to chase down the total, and were bundled out for 114, and lost the match by 128 runs.
