Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 season for the KKR franchise owing to his injury. The franchise also roped in Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement of Mustafizur Rahman. In other news, a Pakistan cricketer sustained a nasty injury during the second ODI against Bangladesh.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Friday, March 13.

Hussain Talat suffers nasty injury in big blow for Pakistan

Pakistan cricketer Hussain Talat suffered a nasty injury in his team’s second ODI of the three-match away series against Bangladesh in Mirpur. While fielding during the seventh over of the Bangladesh innings, Talat jammed his left shoulder and was seen in visible discomfort on the ground. He was subsequently stretchered off the field by the Pakistani support staff mere moments before rains halted play in the match.

He was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for further medical assessment, and the PCB will be expected to drop his availability and fitness update.

Salman Agha, Mehidy Hasan Miraz involved in never-seen-before runout

Pakistan middle-order batter Salman Aghar got run out in a bizarre manner by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the second ODI of their three-match series in Mirpur. Salman, who was batting at the non-strikers end on 64* from 62 balls, attempted to hand the ball back to Miraz in the 39th over of the innings.

However, the Bangladesh spinner quickly grabbed the ball himself and broke the wickets, at a time when the Pakistani all-rounder was well short of his crease. An argument ensued between the two parties before third umpire eventually ruled the batter out.

Harshit Rana ruled out of IPL 2026: Report

Indian fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the entire IPL 2026 season. As per reports, the KKR franchise is actively looking for the speedster’s replacement. Rana injured his knee during an India warm-up game back in February last month, which kept him out of the entire 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, prompting the selection committee to promote Mohammed Siraj in the squad.

Harshit Rana was retained by the KKR franchise for the upcoming IPL 2026 back in late 2025 last year, i.e., ahead of the auction.

Ajinkya Rahane confirms himself as KKR captain for IPL 2026

Senior India batter Ajinkya Rahane has confirmed himself as captain of the KKR franchise for the upcoming IPL 2026 season, thus reprising his role after he was appointed as skipper prior to IPL 2025 last year. The legendary top-order batter was brought in as KKR skipper as a replacement of Shreyas Iyer.

Taking to LinkedIn, Rahane wrote “Leading the Kolkata Knight Riders this season is a responsibility I truly value.” Under his leadership, the KKR franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs of the tournament last year.

Muzarabani rejects PSL 2026 to replace Rahman in IPL 2026

The KKR franchise has roped in lanky Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. Muzarabani will be replacing Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was ruled out of the squad earlier this year owing to the prevailing geo-political tensions between India and Bangladesh.

Notably, Muzarabani himself was locked in by the Islamabad United franchise as a replacement of Shamar Joseph for PSL 2026. However, the Zimbabwe speedster has now ruled himself out of the Pakistani league to prioritize IPL in India.
