In a controversial twist, the BCCI officially banned video analyst Raja Reddy over corruption charges. The corruption case is linked to the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy quarterfinal match between Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh at Indore.

The Ombudsman of the BCCI released an official order regarding the corruption case investigation and confirmed the banning of Raja Reddy for violating anti-corruption rules.

Ranji Trophy rocked by fixing row as BCCI takes action

According to BCCI’s official order, video analyst Raja Reddy approached Andhra Pradesh all-rounder Girinath Reddy with ‘corruption’ intent.

The approach was made before the Ranji Trophy quarter-final between Andhra and Madhya Pradesh, which took place between February 23-26, 2024, at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore.

A corrupt approach in cricket usually means asking a player to influence the result or a particular incident in a match through fixing. It could also include offering or discussing bribes or betting-related manipulation.

That being said, Girinath Reddy immediately informed his team manager, Jugal Kishore. The incident was then reported to the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU), and the latter launched a formal investigation.

What did the BCCI find in the official investigation?

During the investigation, statements were recorded from all parties involved, such as Girinath Reddy, Jugal Kishore and Raja Reddy. Also, for evidence, Raja Reddy’s phone and email accounts and WhatsApp chats were thoroughly examined.

Apparently, Raja Reddy deleted his WhatsApp chat with the player. However, screenshots and chat archives provided by Girinath Reddy were used as evidence. When cross-examined, Raja confirmed the accuracy of those chats during the inquiry.

After reviewing the inquiry report, the Ombudsman ruled that Raja Reddy breached the BCCI Anti-Corruption Code, and he will be banned from BCCI activities.

International Cricket also hit with corruption

Apart from the Ranji Trophy, corruption has been reported in International Cricket as well as three cricketers have come into the line of fire.

West Indies fast-bowling all-rounder Javon Searles, Titans team owner Chitranjan Rathod, and team official Trevon Griffith have been charged with multiple corruption offences linked to the Bim10 Tournament during the 2023-24 season.

The charges were filed jointly by the ICC and CWI. Because of the seriousness of the charges, all three have been provisionally suspended from all cricket activities while the investigation continues.

The ICC confirmed this case is part of a larger corruption probe. Earlier in the same investigation, USA cricketer Aaron Jones was also charged with five anti-corruption breaches

Now, all three accused have 14 days (from March 11, 2026) to respond to the charges. A disciplinary panel will then review the evidence. If found guilty, they could face long bans from cricket, potentially several years or even lifetime bans.
