India’s left-arm spinner Manav Suthar is poised to return to England’s domestic club for the sharp end of the County Championship season once his Test duties in Sri Lanka are complete.
Suthar was named in India’s 15-man squad for the two-match Test series in the island nation, a touring party that also marks the comebacks of Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah.
With the series finishing in late August, the 23-year-old will then head back to Edgbaston to feature in the club’s last four Division One fixtures.
Manav Suthar gets called back by Warwickshire
Warwickshire confirmed the recall on the back of Suthar’s impressive earlier stint, with Performance Director James Thomas revealing both Suthar and New Zealand batter Will Young would bolster the squad for the title run-in.
“We’re very pleased to welcome both Will and Manav back to the Bears after both players made a real impact when they were last with the Club. We’ve played some good red-ball cricket already this season, and both players will now bring additional quality at a crucial time of the campaign where we are in the mix for the title,” Thomas said.

How did Suthar perform for Warwickshire before?
Manav Suthar featured in two County Championship matches earlier in the summer and snared 11 wickets, including a maiden five-wicket haul in England. That five-for came against Somerset at Taunton, where he ground through 46.5 overs in the second innings to return 5 for 100, giving him match figures of 7 for 150.
The effort placed him in an elite club of Indian bowlers, from Kapil Dev and Bishan Bedi to Mohammed Siraj and Washington Sundar, who have taken a County Championship fifer.
With the bat, the Rajasthan spinner chipped in with 98 runs across three innings at an average of 32.67 and a strike rate of 64.90, demonstrating the lower-order resistance that Warwickshire value highly.
Why Warwickshire is recalling Manav Suthar?
Warwickshire sit third in Division One with 111 points from eight outings, just five points behind leaders Nottinghamshire, and remain firmly in the hunt for a second title in five years.
The departure of Australian all-rounder Beau Webster has left a gap in the side’s balance, and Suthar’s ability to turn matches with the ball, and to add vital runs, makes him a ready-made replacement.
As Thomas put it, “Will adds experience to our batting line-up, especially with Beau Webster’s time at the Club over for the season, while Manav showed earlier this year that he has the ability to change a game with the ball as well as adding crucial runs.”
Manav Suthar’s likely joining date with Warwickshire
India’s Test assignment in Sri Lanka begins with a warm-up game in Colombo from August 7, followed by the first Test in Galle (August 15–19) and the second at the SSC, Colombo (August 23–27).
Barring any fitness or selection surprises, Suthar is expected to be released after the second Test, making him available to link up with Warwickshire around the final week of August or early September.
That timeline would see Manav Suthar suit up for the Bears’ last four Championship matches, all of which are likely to be played in September, giving the club a high-class spin option for the decisive phase of the season.
