There is hardly a day in Pakistan cricket without any drama. The ongoing three-match Test series between Pakistan and England has only intensified it, with heavy defeats forcing major changes within the Pakistani setup.

The PCB responded to the disastrous series by making sweeping changes, releasing seven players from the touring squad while also removing Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul from coaching roles.

But the turmoil has taken another dramatic turn, with another major exit in the form of Misbah-ul-Haq, adding yet another layer of uncertainty and chaos to Pakistan cricket’s growing crisis.

Misbah-ul-Haq Resigns From The PCB Selection Committee 

In a significant development, Misbah-ul-Haq has reportedly resigned from the PCB selection committee with immediate effect, adding another major development to the growing turmoil surrounding Pakistan cricket.

According to ARY News, Misbah sent his resignation to the PCB by email on Tuesday, September 1, ending his stint with the selection setup while Pakistan’s Test series against England is still underway.

No official statement from either the PCB or Misbah-ul-Haq has been released regarding the resignation, but the timing suggests it could be a reaction to Pakistan’s disastrous second Test defeat against England at Lord’s.

Coming into the second Test, Pakistan faced major selection questions, with fans particularly shocked by Salman Ali Agha’s omission from the Lord’s playing XI, a decision that ultimately failed to change the team’s fortunes.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s resignation came after Pakistan’s embarrassing second Test defeat against England at Lord’s, with the former captain reportedly unhappy with the way important squad decisions were handled.

It is believed Misbah was not consulted about the changes to Pakistan’s Test squad, particularly the decision to send seven players home ahead of the third and final Test against England.

The PCB also reshuffled its coaching setup, releasing Sarfaraz Ahmed and Umar Gul from their positions. These major changes reportedly increased the frustration around Misbah and eventually contributed to his decision to resign.

Misbah-ul-Haq’s resignation has added another major twist to Pakistan cricket’s ongoing drama, coming during the Test series in England and creating further uncertainty around the team’s direction.

Misbah was appointed to the selection committee in March 2026, but his tenure has produced mixed results. Pakistan lost ODI and Test series against Bangladesh before beating Australia’s second-string side in the ODI series.

Then they drew the West Indies Test series 1-1 before suffering another setback against England. Pakistan have already lost the three-match series 2-0, starting with an innings and 103-run defeat at Headingley.

The Lord’s defeat followed with England winning by 194 runs, reflecting Pakistan’s struggles. With players sent home, coaching changes and now Misbah’s resignation, attention will turn to what happens next, including captain Babar Azam.
