In a significant development, Ben Stokes has officially signed with the Adelaide Strikers for the 2026/27 Big Bash League (BBL) season. It is important to note that the signing was confirmed on Tuesday morning, September 1.
The 35-year-old former England captain is expected to be available for the entire BBL season.
His full availability will be a major advantage for the Adelaide Strikers, as Stokes will not have international commitments following his retirement from international cricket earlier this year.
He retired from international cricket on June 28, 2026, during the third Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

According to 7Cricket's Tom Morris, Ben Stokes chose the Adelaide Strikers after a three-way battle for his signing.

The all-rounder had been weighing up lucrative offers from the Sydney Sixers, Melbourne Renegades and Strikers. It’s understood the unsuccessful franchises have been informed of his decision. For Adelaide, his signing represents a major boost ahead of the BBL 2026/27 campaign. Stokes brings experience from international cricket and franchise leagues, as he has also been part of the IPL, The Hundred and Vitality Blast.
"I'm really excited to be joining the Adelaide Strikers for BBL|16. I've always enjoyed playing in Australia, and when the opportunity came up to join the Strikers it was one I couldn't pass up. Stokes said in a statement.
"Adelaide Oval is an incredible place to play cricket, the Big Bash is a fantastic competition and the Strikers have an exciting group, so I'm looking forward to meeting the players, getting stuck in and contributing to a successful season.” he added.

Ben Stokes BBL 2026/27 Price
Ben Stokes is reportedly set to earn around AUD $500,000 for the 2026/27 BBL season. Cricket Australia sources (as per 7Cricket) confirmed his decision shortly after the competition's player embargo period ended during the week of August 25.
It is important to mention that this amount will put Stokes among the highest-paid overseas players in BBL history. His reputation, experience and expected availability make him a major marquee signing for Adelaide.
Earlier, the star player played in the BBL 2014/15 season, but his earnings from that season have not been disclosed.
When Was The Last Time Ben Stokes Featured In BBL?
Stokes last played in the BBL during the 2014/15 season for the Melbourne Renegades. He played in four matches and made 128 runs at an average of 32.00 and a strike rate of 156.09.
His most memorable performance came against the Hobart Hurricanes, when he smashed 77 runs from only 37 balls. With the ball, he bagged three wickets in 4 matches at an economy rate of 12.20.
Since then, Stokes has gone on to establish himself as one of the world's leading all-rounders. Taking a look at his T20 career, he has featured in 162 matches and made 3,027 runs at an average of 24.41 and a strike rate of 132.87. He has also taken 93 wickets at an economy rate of 8.48. However, his most recent T20 appearance came in August 2024.
