Dewald Brevis has been on fire in the ongoing T20I tri-series in Namibia, producing two back-to-back insane knocks for South Africa. His sensational run has once again put the spotlight on the immense talent of the CSK star.
With Brevis making headlines, AB de Villiers had a lot to say about the youngster. The former South Africa captain opened up about Brevis, his development and the way his immense potential is being handled
AB de Villiers Heaps Praise on Dewald Brevis Amid Superb Run of Form
Dewald Brevis began the ongoing T20I tri-series in Namibia with a fantastic 75 off 50 balls against Namibia before taking things up another notch. He followed it with an unbeaten 75 off 32 balls against Zimbabwe.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers 360, the former South Africa skipper was quick to praise Brevis, revealing that he has personally worked with the youngster during his off time.
“I always say Dewald Brevis. I work a little bit with him in my off time. He's still young, guys. I think a lot of people look at him like he's almost past his best. He's still early 20s. There's a lot of cricket left for that young man.”

De Villiers believes Brevis still has plenty of time to develop and reach his best, despite some fans already questioning his consistency. Amid all the praise, De Villiers also reflected on Brevis’ development and how the young batter should be handled going forward.
AB de Villiers Urges Coaches To Stop Moving Dewald Brevis Around
AB de Villiers was quick to highlight how Dewald Brevis needs to be handled, indirectly urging the management he plays under, including CSK, to settle him in one batting position. He believes consistency will allow the youngster to perform at his best.
“I hope that the coaches stop fooling him around. Bat him in the top order, stop putting him at five, and then he opens, then he bats at six, then he opens again, then he bats at three. In my opinion, he needs to bat No. 3 in T20s, three in ODIs, and four in Test match cricket,” de Villiers said.
De Villiers’ comments could also give CSK something to consider, with Brevis’ batting position becoming an important talking point. The former Proteas captain firmly believes the South African should be trusted with responsibility rather than repeatedly shuffled around the order.
AB de Villiers’ Brevis Comments Could Be A Wake-Up Call For CSK
AB De Villiers’ call for Brevis to bat at No. 3 in T20 cricket could interest CSK ahead of upcoming IPL season. Since joining the franchise, Brevis has batted at No. 4, 5 and 6, but never at No. 3.

| No. 4 | 1 | 41 runs at 41 average and 141.4 strike-rate |

Brevis batted at No. 3 for his previous IPL team Mumbai Indians, although that stint did not produce success. His best IPL season came with CSK in 2025, when he scored 225 runs at an average of 37.50 and strike rate of 180.

In that 2025 campaign, Brevis played four innings at No. 4, five at No. 5 and two at No. 6. De Villiers’ assessment could therefore prompt CSK to consider whether moving him to No. 3 can unlock more.
