Days after the security breach row hit the PSL 2026, with the Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi involved, the franchise has decided to take swift action against him. This is to ensure the authorities and Mohsin Naqvi’s PCB that no further mishaps happen in the league in such sensitive times.

It is three days in a row that the Lahore Qalandars find themselves in a peculiar situation after the security breach issue was taken to the police, followed by the ball tampering allegations in their loss against the Karachi Kings.

Shaheen Afridi slapped with a fine

On March 29, it was reported that Lahore Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi and star all-rounder Sikandar Raza were involved in a security breach in PSL 2026. The duo reportedly escorted four guests into Raza’s room, despite being denied permission by the security manager and the anti-corruption unit.

The official police report also suggested that the Qalandars’ owner also sought permission for Raza to have his family over to his room. However, after Shaheen and Raza took the four guests to Raza’s room, the police asked the PCB to take the necessary action against the player to prevent any further such situations.

According to the latest news on Monday night, the franchise (Lahore Qalandars) has now fined the captain, Shaheen Afridi, with an amount of PKR 10 lakh just 24 hours after the police got involved.

Raza stands for Shaheen over the security breach row

After the reports of Shaheen Afridi escorting Raza’s guests to his room, despite intervention from the PSL 2026 security personnel, the Zimbabwe captain spoke to the press and denied any such incident. According to him, he was at fault on the matter and not Shaheen.

“Shaheen didn't force anyone. My friends and family had come, and at my request, Shaheen helped them [come up to my room]. If these were the SOPs, I wasn't aware, and to some extent, Shaheen wasn't aware either,” said Raza after the match against Karachi Kings.

“The culprit here is me, not Shaheen. He went down on my request, because it was my close family and friends; I didn't want to meet them in the business centre. We sat upstairs for 40 minutes,” he concluded.

Dark clouds over PSL 2026

It has been under a week since the latest edition of the PSL started under questionable circumstances. Due to the tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, alongside the war situation in the Gulf region, PSL 2026 is being played behind closed doors at just two venues, i.e., Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore and the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.

In the follow-up of that, prominent Pakistan star, Naseem Shah, took the league by storm with his tweets on Maryam Nawaz, which saw him get fined by PKR 20 million by the PCB. It is said to be the largest fine any player has ever received from the board, despite the player deleting the tweet quickly.

In addition to that, the security breach and Naseem Shah’s tweet issue, the Lahore Qalandars star Fakhar Zaman was also accused of ball tampering, said to be caught on camera. As of now, he has denied the charges and further investigation is set to take place in the coming days to determine the fine (if any) that Fakhar will have to pay.
