In a major development during the first week of PSL 2026, two Lahore Qalandars stars, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and all-rounder Sikandar Raza, find themselves in major trouble, with authorities getting involved in the matter.

The ongoing PSL season is being played behind closed doors due to the ongoing conflicts in Asia, with tight security protocols in place. Just days into the competition, the two prominent stars from the Lahore Qalandars' side were found guilty of violating these arrangements, despite Mohsin Naqvi's PCB issuing warnings.

Shaheen and Raza breach security protocols in PSL

According to the official statement from the Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations, Muhammad Faisal, it is said that the incident happened the night before the Lahore Qalandars faced Karachi Kings at the Gaddafi Stadium.

The Liaison Officer of Qalandars approached the security manager and the anti-corruption unit of Mohsin Naqvi's PCB, seeking permission to allow Sikandar Raza's four relatives into his room. However, the request made at 20:35 PM was rejected by the officers in charge, before Sameen Rana, Lahore Qalandars owner, re-approached with the same request.

The owner's request was also rejected, but Raza, alongside captain Shaheen Afridi, disregarded the directives and forcefully escorted the family members to Raza's room. They stayed in the room till 1:25 AM, and the issue was taken to the police.

After the incident was taken up by the Lahore police, Mohsin Naqvi and PCB received an official letter from the officials, revealing the full story. They were also directed to review the matter and prevent any further breaches in the league.

"The incident represents a clear violation of the PCB's security protocols and code of conduct, which are designed to ensure the safety and integrity of all players, officials and associated personnel," the official wrote to Mohsin Naqvi and co.

"In view of the seriousness of this matter, it is requested that the incident is reviewed at the appropriate forum and neccessary action be taken to prevent recurrence of such violations. Ensuring strict compliance with security protocols is essential to avoid any untoward or potentially harmful situations," he added.

PSL 2026 comically leaves Mohsin Naqvi embarrassed

The beginning of the PSL 2026 season began with two new teams being introduced to the league. One of the two sides, Hyderabad Kingsmen, played the opening match between Shaheen Afridi and Sikandar Raza's Lahore Qalandars in Lahore.

However, on what was a historic day for the league, Mohsin Naqvi and PCB were left embarrassed with an unprecedented event, when the ball left its colour and turned pink due to Hyderabad's kit colours. It remained in play for over 10 overs, and captain Marnus Labuschagne called this out in the press conference after the match.

Later on, Kingsmen's official X handle also tweeted and congratulated the Qalandars for their first-ever pink-ball match win and made fun of Mohsin Naqvi's league.
