It was a night for Chennai Super Kings to forget as they clashed with Rajasthan Royals in their inaugural match of IPL 2026. As Jofra Archer and Nandre Berger became their doom with the ball, Rajasthan Royals' wonder kid Vaibhav Sooryavanshi left no stone unturned to further humiliate CSK.
Sooryavanshi slammed a 17-ball 52 while chasing a paltry target of 128 at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Assam. The match, which already seemed far away from the Yellow Army’s reach, was further dragged down by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s masterclass as he came out to open for the Pink Army.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Heroic Rise That Was Never Stuck
Sooryavanshi was retained by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2026 auction for a base price of ₹1.10 crore. The batting prodigy from Bihar, who rose to prominence in IPL 2025 with an average of 36 and a strike rate of 206.56 from just seven matches, carried his form into IPL 2026.
He consistently scored runs in the Ranji Trophy and Asia Cup, emerging as a rising star where he averaged 69.75. He also shone in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Under-19 Asia Cup 2025, scoring 261 runs from five matches.
In the Under-19 World Cup 2026 as well, Sooryavanshi averaged a massive 62.71 at a strike rate of 169.50. All of this built up to what he produced against Chennai Super Kings on March 30, 2026.

Sooryavanshi Shines With A Quickfire Fifty In IPL 2026 Clash
Coming in to chase 128 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi opened for Rajasthan Royals. The duo raced to 74 runs in the powerplay after Sooryavanshi received a huge lifeline in the very first over of his innings.
On the third ball of the first over, while facing Matt Henry, Sooryavanshi was dropped by Kartik Sharma, a moment that proved to be game-changing as he capitalized fully and went on a scoring spree to achieve the third fastest fifty in IPL history.
Sooryavanshi reached his half-century in just 15 deliveries as Rajasthan Royals cruised to 100 in only 8.4 overs. The target was made to look like a mere formality as Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal dismantled CSK’s bowling attack.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was eventually dismissed after a superb catch by Sarfaraz Khan in the second ball of the seventh over, where he dived forward at deep to complete a stunning low catch. The brilliant effort ended Sooryavanshi’s innings as he walked back after striking at an astonishing 305.88.
Netizens Praise Sooryavanshi’s Knock
This mammoth knock by Sooryavanshi did not go unnoticed by netizens, with fans showering praise on the young sensation.
Let’s take a look at how the internet reacted to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s blistering half-century against CSK.

CSK Disappoints With Humiliating Batting Performance in IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, disappointed with the bat in a Dhoni-less attack. Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad both fell for six runs, with the team losing four wickets inside the powerplay.
Ayush Mhatre was also sent back for a golden duck, as only Jamie Overton’s late blitz of 36-ball 43 saved CSK’s face and helped them cross the 100-run mark.
Nevertheless, this disappointing loss for Chennai at the hands of Rajasthan Royals will serve as a lesson, with CSK aiming for a victory against Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2026 encounter on April 3.
