KKR Star Finn Allen Joins Chris Gayle's Team For New T20 Tournament

Finn Allen has been roped in by a Chris Gayle-owned team in Europe’s upcoming T20 league. The blistering New Zealand opener, currently playing for the KKR franchise in IPL 2026, is set to play for the Glasgow Cosmic in the inaugural edition of the European T20 Premier League.

Gayle was named the co-owner of the franchise just last month, along with Indian businesswoman Tansha Batra. It is worth noting that former cricketers like Rahul Dravid and Steve Waugh also own franchises in this promising tournament.

Glasgow Cosmic rope in Finn Allen, Ali Khan

The Glasgow Cosmic franchise has recruited three players for its squad for the upcoming European T20 Premier League 2026 season. 

Apart from explosive New Zealand opener Finn Allen, the franchise also named Scotland all-rounder Richie Berrington and USA fast bowler Ali Khan into its team.

Allen, a veteran of 191 T20 matches, holds a staggering batting strike rate of 178.56. The cricketer has plundered 34 half-centuries and seven hundreds, including one in the ongoing IPL 2026 season for the KKR franchise.

Finn Allen to bring proven T20 pedigree to ETPL

Finn Allen recently made his IPL debut, doing so for the KKR in IPL 2026. In nine matches of the season, the cricketer has already plundered 321 runs at a staggering strike rate of 221.37 and with a prolific average of 40.12.

Not long ago, Allen played an influential role in taking New Zealand into the final of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. 

In the semifinal of the tournament, the 27-year-old blasted a 33-ball unbeaten century against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chris Gayle re-enters T20 zone in different role

Chris Gayle was named the co-owner of the Glasgow Mugafians franchise last month. The team has since been renamed to Glasgow Cosmic. Apart from Gayle, the Glasgow franchise is owned by Indian businesswoman Tansha Batra.

Upon joining the European T20 League, the former West Indies captain expressed his excitement and said “The ETPL is already creating waves globally, and having played in franchise leagues around the world, I’m confident this will be something special.”

European T20 League explained ahead of inaugural season

The European T20 Premier League is Europe’s inaugural ICC-approved T20 franchise competition. The league is co-owned by Bollywood actor and sports enthusiast Abhishek Bachchan.

Earlier this month, former Indian captain Rahul Dravid was named as the owner of the Dublin Guardians franchise. Interestingly, the team will be led by fellow legendary Indian player, Ravichandran Ashwin.

The inaugural ETPL 2026 season will be played between August 26 and September 20. As many as 33 matches will be played between six franchises, namely the Amsterdam Flames, Edinburgh Castle Rockers, Dublin Guardians, Rotterdam Dockers, Glasgow Cosmic and a Glenn Maxwell-owned Belfast team.

Former cricketers like Steve Waugh, Kyle Mills and Jonty Rhodes are the co-owners of the Amsterdam, Edinburgh and Rotterdam franchises respectively.
