Cricket Canada has grabbed the headlines for the wrong reasons in recent times. After the ICC Anti-Corruption unit launched an investigation into an alleged match-fixing scandal in one of Canada's T20 World Cup matches, another controversy regarding players' security has brought the cricketing body into disrepute.
This time, Jay Shah's ICC is under trial, with the concerned player from Canada raising serious questions over players' safety during the T20 World Cup 2026.
Cricket Canada rocked by match-fixing in T20 World Cup 2026
Recently, the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Jay Shah-led ICC initiated a probe into an alleged match-fixing incident involving the Canada cricket team.
Dilpreet Bajwa, the captain of Canada, took some surprising on-field calls that allowed New Zealand to claim the driving seat, pushing his team to the verge of defeat.
Yuvraj Samra's scintillating century powered Canada to 173 runs. New Zealand found themselves in troubled waters, with Saad Bin Zafar and Dilon Heyliger dismissing the destructive duo of Finn Allen and Tim Seifert in quick succession.
However, Dilpreet Bajwa let the game slip with his bizarre decision-making, introducing himself into the attack and releasing the pressure.
He was exposed by CBC’s fifth estate documentary "Corruption, Crime and Cricket Canada", following which the Jay Shah-led ICC took the matter into its own hands and initiated an investigation.
Canada cricketer sparks controversy by challenging ICC's security arrangement
As Cricket Canada gets embroiled in an infamous match-fixing scandal, another player from the country has made a million cricket fans raise their eyebrows by questioning the ICC security during the T20 World Cup.
The 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup was played in India and Sri Lanka. Although Canada, placed in Group D, had all their matches in India, the players had travelled to Sri Lanka for a pre-tournament practice camp.

It's worth mentioning that the Jay Shah-led ICC had worked collaboratively with the Sri Lanka Cricket to ensure safety and a hassle-free experience for the players and support staff during the T20 World Cup.
However, despite the ICC and SLC implementing strict safety measures, one of the Canadian players felt unsafe during the pre-World Cup camp in Sri Lanka. As reported by the Toronto Sun, the player was given additional security after he approached the authorities for protection.
The renowned media agency didn't reveal the name of the player who challenged the Jay Shah-led ICC's security arrangements. However, it disclosed that he was hesitant to give interviews and preferred to stay away from the local media after returning to his home following the World Cup in the sub-continent.
"The player approached the authorities for protection when the squad arrived for training in Sri Lanka for the competition as he “felt unsafe.” The authorities assured him of his safety for the duration of the tournament," the Toronto Sun reported.
Did Canada star play blame-game with ICC?
Given that the documentary titled "Corruption, Crime and Cricket Canada" has highlighted scandalous activities at the grassroots level in Cricket Canada, it's quite possible that the aforementioned player was aware of the illegal activities by Dilpreet Bajwa and his associates.
This could be the reason why he demanded additional security to protect himself from the wrongdoers, who could've silenced his voice for personal benefits.
So, what has surfaced might just be the tip of an iceberg, and it won't be surprising if the dark side of the story gets exposed in the near future.
