Through the course of his run riot against an experienced New Zealand attack, the 19-year-old also attained a significant T20 World Cup record, previously held by Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad.
Yuvraj Samra shatters T20 World Cup records with majestic ton
Yuvraj Samra tonked a 58-ball century against New Zealand in Canada’s third Group D match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The youngster raced to his century from just 58 balls at the end of the 17th over, an occasion that also coincided with Canada reaching the 150-run mark with three overs to spare.
The cricketer attained the feat at the age of just 19 years and 141 days, thus becoming the youngest player in the history of T20 World Cups to score a century. Previously, Pakistan’s out-of-favour batter Ahmed Shehzad held the prestigious record for scoring a century against Bangladesh in Mirpur at the 2014 event over a decade ago.

Canada mount 173 in must-win game
Yuvraj Samra ended up shaping 110 runs in all from just 65 balls. The 19-year-old glittered his innings with 11 cracking boundaries and six huge sixes in Chennai. His opening partnership of 116 runs from just 84 balls with captain Dilpreet Bajwa and crucial late runs alongside Navneet Dhaliwal helped Canada mount 173-4 in 20 overs.
For New Zealand, fast bowlers Matt Henry (1-28), Jacob Duffy (1-25), Kyle Jamieson (1-41) and James Neesham (1-38) all picked up a wicket each in their respective four-over spells.
Earlier in the day, Canada skipper had won the toss and opted to bat first. The match marks a must-win one for the Canada cricket team in a bid to stay alive in the ongoing 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup before the Super 8 stage.
A defeat at this stage for Canada will pretty much ensure their early first-round exit from the tournament.
