IND vs PAK bilaterals on the horizon?
Meanwhile, the PCB had earlier submitted a list of demands to the ICC. These include the revival of bilateral cricket ties with India, a larger share of ICC revenue, strict enforcement of match ethics, support for Bangladesh over past hosting issues, and even a proposed tri-series involving India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
With key officials set to gather in Doha, all eyes will be on whether discussions between Shah and Naqvi could pave the way for the return of the India-Pakistan bilateral series in the near future.
What happened between India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2026?
The much-anticipated India vs Pakistan match created buzz for a long time before bringing an end to a dramatic, week-long crisis that almost derailed the match.
After days of intense discussions, the deadlock was finally broken, and the clash between these two cricketing giants went ahead as planned.
The crisis began on January 3, when the BCCI ordered the KKR to remove Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from their squad for the IPL 2026. This move came in the context of growing political tensions between India and Bangladesh.
The BCCI’s action set off a chain of events that would eventually lead to the cancellation of Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
On January 4, the BCB announced that its players and staff would not travel to India for the World Cup, citing safety and security concerns.
The BCB then officially requested the ICC to relocate Bangladesh’s matches, which were originally scheduled to take place in India, to Sri Lanka. The ICC entered into negotiations with the BCB, but did not agree to shift the matches from India.
ICC later on removed Bangladesh from the global tournament, and they were replaced by Scotland. After Bangladesh was expelled from the World Cup, Pakistan decided to boycott the match against India.
After more than a week of tense negotiations, a breakthrough finally came. In an effort to move forward, the ICC agreed that Bangladesh would not face any penalties or sanctions for its decision not to travel to India.
Within an hour of this announcement, Pakistan’s government made a U-turn and allowed Pakistan to play against India in the 2026 T20 World Cup group-stage match.
