Since the beginning, Bangladesh has produced some of the great cricketing talents, but Shakib Al Hasan is a legend. But the legal troubles kept the legendary all-rounder out of the cricket action for his nation, but tables are expected to turn in the upcoming series against Pakistan.
After skipping the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh will face Men in Green in a three-match ODI series. As the Tigers are set to take on the challenge, BCB wants Shakib Al Hasan back in the side.
BCB wants Shakib Al Hasan Back In Bangladesh’s Squad
Over the years, Shakib Al Hasan has been a massive asset to Bangladesh cricket since long time. However, his political career cast a shadow over his cricket journey. Following corruption allegations, the legendary all-rounder has remained out of the country for a long time as the Bangladesh side is missing his experience and leadership in the squad.
After walking out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh is all set for their first assignment of 2026. The Tigers are set to face Pakistan in a three-match ODI series, starting from March 11. As they are set to face the Men in Green on home soil, BCB demanded Shakib Al Hasan’s return to the team.

Security has been a major concern for the veteran all-rounder has not returned to Bangladesh since May 2024 and missed his farewell Test. Reflecting on the issue, Amzad Hussain, a director of the BCB, said it is the government’s responsibility to handle his legal matters. However, he made it clear that the Bangladesh team still wants Shakib back.
“The government will look after the cases involving Shakib. We are not handling any legal proceedings. Lawyers and the court will deal with those matters. From our side, we have said clearly that we want Shakib in the team. We feel his presence is necessary. The question is what role the BCB can play in this context,” he said.
Shakib Al Hasan still has plenty left to give Bangladesh cricket
Emerging as an u-19 star to a legendary all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan has not just shaped him as a world-class player, but he has also played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s cricket. He led the team from the front as Bangladesh experienced some of the greatest triumphs over the years.
Since he left the squad, the Tigers faced some deadly slumps as his absence left a void in the squad. As the Tigers now look to rebuild and begin a new chapter, Amzad Hussain believed that Shakib Al Hasan still has plenty left to offer to Bangladesh cricket.
“We believe Shakib is still capable of serving the team. He can contribute and perform. That is why we have expressed our desire to have him back,” he said.

Stepping away from the T20 World Cup 2026 was a bold decision, and after a long time, Bangladesh is set to return to cricket. In March 2026, they are all set to host Pakistan in a thrilling three-match ODI series. All matches will be played in Mirpur, with the series starting on March 11.
With the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching, Bangladesh and Pakistan have begun their preparations, and the upcoming ODI series will mark an important and competitive start. The Bangladeshi fans are eagerly waiting for some unmissable cricket action on the field.
