Ishan Kishan is out with a groin injury, which is why he missed the last T20Is against New Zealand on the ongoing tour. So far, the status of his injury is unclear, except that he has sustained a right adductor strain.
In the absence of the current No.1 T20I batter, Team India is fielding the gung-ho Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who tonked a 19-ball 45 at Wellington during the IND vs NZ 3rd T20I.
Ishan Kishan bats in indoor nets during IND vs NZ 3rd T20I
According to Sports Now’s journalist, Ankar Kar, Ishan Kishan had a hit in the indoor nets at the Wellington Stadium during the proceedings of the third T20I between India and New Zealand.
However, it isn’t clear how long Kishan batted in the nets, nor is the intensity of the session.
“Ishan Kishan went to the indoor nets to bat during the game here at Hnry Stadium,” the journalist stated.
Kishan has been among the best batters in the world in the shortest format. In 35 matches this year, the pocket dynamo has racked up 1159 T20I runs at 36.21, with a whopping strike rate of nearly 180, including a century and seven fifties.
Notably, Kishan is chasing the record for most T20I runs in a calendar year. As of yet, the left-hander is placed in fifth place, with Austria’s Karanbir Singh leading the charts - 1488 in 32 innings in 2025.
With five T20Is to go in 2026, the numero uno batter is just five runs behind Suryakumar Yadav, who scored the most runs in a calendar year for India.
Who will be benched if Ishan Kishan gets fit for IND vs NZ 4th T20I?
As Vaibhav Sooryavanshi proved his worth at Wellington during his blitz of 45 runs, the inclusion of Ishan Kishan would become a headache for the team management.
The teenager was promoted to open the innings in the third T20I, and he repaid the trust with a 137-run opening partnership with Abhishek Sharma.
The two matched each other stroke for stroke during their record-shattering stand, helping India chase down the target of 199 runs in just 13.2 overs.
Thanks to the gung-ho batting, Sanju Samson didn't get time in the middle. So, the team management may consider giving him more game time, along with the teenage sensation.
Thus, Abhishek could get rested if Ishan Kishan gets fit in time for the fourth T20I.
