Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Wednesday, February 11.
Gurbaz rebels, but South Africa pip Afghanistan in historic double Super Over
South Africa edged out Afghanistan in a historic double Super Over bout in match 13 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Batting first, a fiery Ryan Rickelton knock of 61 runs pushed South Africa to 187-6 in 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz punched out 84 off just 42 balls for a cruising Afghanistan, but a last-ball run out resulted in a thrilling tie.
The first Super Over of the match also had scores levelled courtesy of a late blitz from Tristan Stubbs. With Stubbs and David Miller both going berserk in the second Super Over, South Africa won the match despite Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s three successive sixes at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
Sikandar Raza replaces Saim Ayub in ICC rankings
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza dethroned Pakistan cricketer Saim Ayub to claim the number one spot on the latest ICC men’s rankings for T20I all-rounders. Raza is currently holding 299 rating points, i.e., 17 points clear of second-placed Saim Ayub. The Pakistani youngster lost his throne owing to his underwhelming returns as an all-rounder during Pakistan’s home T20I series against Australia as well as in the ongoing 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Naseem Shah, Faheem Ashraf headline PSL 2026 auction
The PSL 2026 auction took place on the day at the Expo Centre in Lahore, with more than 800 players going under the hammer. A historic occasion in the context of the PSL ahead of its 11th season, young Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah and star all-rounder Faheem Ashraf both set the cash registers ringing at the bidding event. Both Naseem and Faheem were acquired by the Rawalpindi and Islamabad United franchises respectively.
Among overseas stars, New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell and explosive former Australian opener David Warner hogged the limelight by joining Rawalpindi and Karachi Kings.
Adil Rashid scripts huge T20I history with World Cup spell vs WI
England spinner Adil Rashid picked up the important wickets of Roston Chase and Rovman Powell against West Indies in match number 15 of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With West Indies mounting 196-6, Rashid claimed exceptional figures of 2-16 in his four overs of the high-scoring innings at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
In doing so, the cricketer has now snared 42 wickets against West Indies, the highest for any bowler against a single opposition in T20I cricket. He went past Pakistan’s Haris Rauf to script a rare bowling record.
Ishan Kishan injured before Namibia match
Attacking Indian opener Ishan Kishan suffered a nasty toe injury during a training session on February 11, i.e., just a day before India’s Group A match of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against Namibia in Delhi.
As reported by TOI journalist Sahul Malhotra, Kishan was hit on his left toe by a Jasprit Bumrah yorker. The cricketer looked in visible pain, and it remains to be seen if he will make it to Team India playing XI for the match on February 12. It is worth noting that his opening partner Abhishek Sharma is also suffering from illness at the moment.
