"Stop Being A Princess, You're Not Bigger Than The Game," Steve Smith Grilled In AUS vs BAN 1st Test

On the opening day of the first AUS vs BAN Test, Steve Smith stood tall between the Bangladesh bowlers and the Australian innings. 

From Bangladesh's point of view, Hasan Mahmud had a historic day at the office, but he wasn't Smith's biggest headache at Darwin on Thursday.

Although the legendary batter bailed the Aussie innings to an extent, he wasn't the favourite among fans during his time at the crease against Bangladesh. 

Fan grills Steve Smith on Day 1 of AUS vs BAN 1st Test

During the early hours of the opening day of the Darwin Test between Australia and Bangladesh, Steve Smith received some top-drawer banter from the Aussie spectators sitting in the crowd.

While batting in the middle, the Australian number four was unhappy with the sightscreen. He later asked the ground staff to adjust it, which wasted a brief amount of the in play. One of the fans present at the Marrara Stadium lost his cool at the veteran batter, and he grilled him.  

The fan was caught shouting, "Just hit the damn thing Smudge. Stop being a princess."

The Aussie great ignored the fan and kept instructing the groundstaff to make the adjustment while standing at the crease. Responding to Smith's action, the frustrated fan added, "You're not bigger than the game Steve. Deal with it."

Later, the legendary batter didn't have any problems with the sightscreen, as it was the only issue with Steve throughout his innings.

Batting first, Australia were against a spirited Bangladesh bowling line-up, who challenged them throughout and didn't bowl any warm-up delivery in the entire first innings.

The Bangladesh fast bowlers were simply outstanding in setting up the host batters, who fell one after the other. However, Steve Smith stood tall in the middle like a rock, especially after getting dropped early on his innings.

The 37-year-old played a fighting knock of 71 runs, but he failed to get ample support from the other end. Eventually, he played a false shot off Hasan Mahmud to miss his 38th Test century.

Hasan Mahmud etches name in history with six-wicket haul

Australia were toppled for their lowest total in Test cricket against Bangladesh at Darwin on Thursday; seamer Hasan Mahmud had a great day at the office. On a track that was a paradise for fast bowling, the speedster had his tail up as he took full advantage of the pace and bounce on offer. 

Mahmud bagged the first two wickets of the innings, scalping the wickets of Jake Weatherald and Travis Head in back-to-back overs. 

The 26-year-old then returned to bag Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc's numbers, before getting Smith's edge while looking to flat-bat the ball. Then, he closed the innings with Nathan Lyon’s wicket, returning with a solid six-wicket haul.

Overall, in Test match cricket, the right-arm fast bowler now has three fifers, one each against India, Pakistan and Australia.
