On Monday, August 10, the ICC unveiled the three nominees for Player of the Month for July. It was a month full of enthralling cricket, but not for India. The Men in Blue had a terrible UK tour, resulting in no star making the cut in this prestigious list.
Talking about the nominees, England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook makes the cut alongside West Indies Justin Greaves and Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan.
ICC Player Of the Month Nominees For July
As mentioned above, Harry Brook, Justin Greaves, and Tanzid Hasan have been nominated for ICC Player of the Month for July. Brook, who is England’s white-ball captain, had a terrific series against India and led England to ODI and T20I series wins over India.
Justin Greaves, he had a brilliant month both with the bat and the ball, which included centuries and also a five-wicket haul. Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Tanzid Hasan had a great white-ball campaign in July.
Harry Brook’s Heroics In July
Harry Brook had a brilliant July. Brook led by example during the T20I series against India where he amassed 229 runs in 4 innngs, averaging 114.50 with the bat.
Brook didn't start the series on a positive note and scored 55 runs in the first two matches. However, he showed his class in the last two T20Is where he scored unbeaten 75 and 95. Harry Brook has previously won the prestigious award twice.
Justin Greaves Heroics In July
As mentioned above Justin Greaves had an all-round show in July. He scored 180 with the bat in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka and picked up a fifer against Pakistan in the 1st Test. He also scripted the feat for bowling five-consecutive wicket-taking maiden overs.
Justin Greaves has never won the ICC player of the month award and could become the 4th West Indies player to win this prestigious award.
Tanzid Hasan Heroics In July
Tanzid Hasan had a great T20I and ODI series against Zimbabwe. The star batter scored 159 runs in 3 ODIs and 140 runs in three T20Is. His knocks featured two fifties in T20Is and two fifty-plus scores in ODIs as well.
Tanzid Hasan has also never won the player of the month award in his international career.
Why Were Indian Stars Not Nominated For Player Of the Month Award?
In July, India toured England for a five-match T20I series and three ODIs. The Men in Blue failed to win a solitary match under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership and lost the T20I series 0-4.
Coming to the ODIs, India started positively with a win in the 1st ODI, but the Three Lions bounced back with two back-to-back wins and clinched the series to their name. None of India's stars had a terrific UK tour, which is why they failed to make the cut.
