The stage is set for an epic ODI game as Bangladesh will take on Zimbabwe in the first ODI of the tri-nation series on Saturday. The Tigers will be without their key bowler, Nahid Rana, for the matches, but they still have enough firepower to beat Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh has named a star-studded squad for the tri-nation matches, and on sluggish UAE wickets, they will start as favourites against Zimbabwe. Ahead of the first match, here is Bangladesh’s predicted playing XI.

Openers and top order: Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto

On paper, Bangladesh has a solid top three, with Tanzid Hasan leading from the front. With the bat, he averages 44.18 and will be one of the key players against Zimbabwe.

The experienced Somya Sarkar is most likely going to partner him at the top. He has been going through a rough patch, but the Tigers are likely to back him for the first game of the tri-series.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, who has been injury-prone in recent months, will occupy the number 3 spot. He is an effective player of spin-bowling, and on a sluggish surface, his gameplay against spin could come in handy for the Tigers.

Middle order and all-rounders: Litton Das (capt & wk), Towhid Hridoy, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz

Captain Litton Das is back in the side after an injury layoff, and the keeper-batter is likely to slot in the middle order. Alongside Shanto, he, too, will be responsible for keeping the scoreboard ticking in the middle overs.

In just 12 ODIs this year, Towhid Hridoy, the Bangladesh batter, has scored 433 runs, with an average of 61.86, and the Asian side would hope he can continue to deliver the goods in the upcoming match against Zimbabwe.

Mosaddek Hossain will be used as a finisher by the Bangladesh team, and he’ll be responsible for steering the team to a respectable total.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz can contribute with the bat, and he will also bowl 10 quality overs, thus performing the dual role (bat and ball) with utmost ease.

Bowlers: Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman

Bangladesh certainly has the best pace-bowling unit in ODIs at the moment, and Taskin Ahmed will be the leader of the pace attack. He will use the new ball for his team and will be expected to take a couple of wickets up front.

Hasan Mahmud recently did well in the Test match against Afghanistan, even grabbing a hat-trick, and the pacer will be high on confidence, and he will share the new ball alongside Taskin.

Shoriful Islam has been in great touch this year. In 6 ODIs in 2026, the fast bowler has bagged 15 wickets, and he could be a troublemaker for the Zimbabwean batters.

Mustafizur Rahman was taken to the cleaners in the Asian Games 2026, but on sluggish UAE wickets, his cutters could come in handy for the team, and the experienced left-arm seamer could be another pacer picked in the playing XI.
