Manav Suthar voted out on field [Source: X]
During the one-off Test between India and Afghanistan, the Indian team voted out Manav Suthar on Day 3. The incident came just hours after the debutant picked a five-wicket-haul in the second innings.
After declaring on 564/8, India destroyed Afghanistan with a sensational bowling effort. The visitors struggled to face Suthar as he grabbed a six-wicket-haul in his debut Test game.
Eventually, Afghanistan were bowled out for just 152 runs, and India unsparingly decided to enforce a follow-on.
Manav Suthar’s DRS plea rejected by Shubman Gill
Meanwhile, as Afghanistan walked out to bat again, Indian captain Shubman Gill handed the ball back to Manav Suthar for the first over. He was in sensational touch, and hence the decision didn’t come as a surprise.
And on the very first ball, Suthar produced a chance. He bowled a delivery that Atal expected to turn in. Atal lunged forward and played down the wrong line.
The ball beat his bat and struck him on the back pad, and Suthar immediately appealed and wanted a DRS review. However, Shubman Gill consulted wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, and the latter likely indicated that the ball had not spun in enough.

KL Rahul, standing at first slip, also suggested the same, and Gill and Suthar decided against reviewing after careful discussion. And Pant’s observation was spot on, as the impact was outside the off stump line, as confirmed by replays.
Hence, Manav Suthar was rightfully voted out as India didn’t want to lose a review this early in the innings.

Suthar scripts history on debut
Regardless of the bad judgement, Manav Suthar did have a historic outing in his debut Test against Afghanistan.
He finished with remarkable figures of 6/33, becoming the first Indian left-arm spinner to register a six-wicket haul on Test debut with such economy and dominance. In doing so, he eclipsed a record that had stood since 1979.
Former India spinner Dilip Doshi had previously held the distinction for the best bowling figures by an Indian left-arm spinner on Test debut when he claimed 6/103 against Australia in Chennai.
But Suthar's figures of 6/33 are now the best ever by an Indian left-arm spinner in his maiden Test appearance.
India on the verge of a landslide victory
Meanwhile, India are in the driver’s seat in the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan. After posting 564/8 in the first innings, Manav Suthar’s magical spell restricted Afghanistan to 152, and India have imposed a follow-on.
For Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah showed resistance with 60 off 135 balls in the second innings, while the rest of the lineup couldn’t pass the 20-run mark.
In the first innings, Indian batters had a smooth run. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill scored a hundred each, while Sai Sudharsan and Rishabh Pant also contributed with 81 runs each.
Washington Sundar also hit his half-century before India declared the innings with a mammoth score. With nearly 400 runs trail still left, Afghanistan are likely to end up on the losing side in this Test against India.
