Kevin Pietersen called out Heinrich Klaasen on social media after his performance against the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2026. Pietersen effectively wanted Klaasen to reverse his international retirement and join back for the South African cricket team ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

Ending all the speculations and the buzz that gathered around Pietersen’s social media post, Heinrich Klaasen himself revealed his decision as he continues to represent Sunrisers Hyderabad in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

What Did Pietersen Say About Klaasen?

Citing Klaasen’s recent heroics and consistency in the IPL 2026, Pietersen was vocal about the utilisation of his skills for his country as the Proteas look forward towards the World Cup 2027 after a T20 World Cup 2026 heartbreak.

“South Africa have never won a cricket world cup! There should be a phone call this morning, from the South African cricket board, to Heinrich Klaasen, to ask him if he can rejoin international cricket and be a central figure in their campaign to try and win their first ever World Cup, which will be in South Africa next year,” Pietersen wrote on his X handle.

Klaasen Shares Final Verdict on Retirement Reversal

While speaking with sportsdtodayofficial in an exclusive interview, Klaasen shared his feelings about joining the national cricket team. As the host asked him whether he was interested in reversing his retirement, quoting Pietersen, Klaasen's response was straightforward and firm.

“Unfortunately, not. For me, this is about stepping into a new chapter in my life. It’s back to the grind of cricket, and I’m genuinely excited about what lies ahead. I’m looking forward to partnering with Rotterdam and working together to push ETPL into the spotlight, creating something truly exciting in the market," Klaasen said.

Klaasen Set To Focus On ETPL Alone

The investor Heinrich Klaasen was passionate about the upcoming project with the European T20 Premier League and wanted it to become a massive success, as he is one of the investors for the Rotterdam franchise alongside another Proteas great, Faf du Plessis.

“At the same time, our focus is on building a professional setup, ensuring we have the right structure, the right people, and the right infrastructure in place. Most importantly, we want to bring the community along with us and make this journey a collective success.”

For the unaware, this will be the first time Klaasen will be investing in a cricket franchise, as he is looking forward to growing and expanding his wealth in different forms of cricket.

The ETPL will be premiering for the first time with 6 franchises in late August 2026. Following a T20 format, it is set to enter the market following the footsteps of mega-popular leagues like IPL 2026 and the PSL.
